Title: ugly sealer on block-how to remove?
Post by: dandandan on June 06, 2008, 10:47:09 pm
Priced and cleaned a job yesterday, told customer i could clean the dirt off but not the 3 layers of diy sealer he had put on it over the years, didn`t want the job but stressed to him his block was ruined,he was happy with clean and has asked if there is anything that can strip it to its base,is there a product to do this or has he got to live with it?

had the same prob dan, you might be able to get a xylene solution to wash it off or abrade the surface and re seal but i would stay well away if i were you, if a drive has been sealed before i stay well away.  thats why i dont like sealing anymore. too many comebacks and it takes too long, quicker to just clean and sand and no comebacks,  ;)

Forget my next post then,ha ha.Quick question though,i have done a few jobs and sanded perfectly ,blew over to be belt and braces, drive pastr a few days later and theres sand blooms across job,i know it`s the rain and the custy should follow my advice and brush it themselves but i still pull over and give it a quick sweep as the jobs got my name on it if you know wat i mean,is keybond the answer to make the sand hard quicker?

yes i heard as soon as you have sanded and i mean (neatly, no excess sand anywhere ) you spray the keybond on or poor on with watering can and it sets in no time. next day its hard, no weeds, no grass no ants nests and cos its not a sealer you get no shiny patches, you dont need rollers, masks etc, simple! sounds great. and cheaper for the customer as they dont like paying out. :) just need to find the stuff now.

I got it in beesley and fyldes builders merchants in liverpool, haven`t opened bottle yet,if it costs £7 a litre do you charge like £20 a litre to cover labour or do you add say 50p a sq metre to job?

did you get marshalls keybond? or what?  i would charge them your minimum charge for a job plus the cost of the stuff, you need a minimum charge , its no good laying keybond cheaper than pressure washing or sanding as you could have done another cleaning job in the same time, time is money!

Keybond is around £25-£30 for 5 litres, which goes a fair way when mixed with water,

i usually charge the above price plus £20 for putting it down,

My local Jewsons and Travis Perkins stock it!!
