Title: I love the rain
Post by: jeff1 on June 05, 2008, 07:35:48 pm
I picked up 2 more guttering Jobs today, I was busy working away when I had a shout from my daughter who was working on the next house, I went around to see what she wanted and she was stood talking to my mate who cleans wheelie bins for a living.

He asked me for some business cards for a couple of his customers who's bins he had just done, he started to tell me that they were asking if he knew anyone who cleans guttering as they had just had quotes from a guttering cleaning company who's quote was £300 to do in and out of the guttering, now I know this to be true as I have had quite a bit of guttering work and the customer often tells me they had a quote from this company.

I know I'm not cheap but these prices are way way over the top, how many customers accept there quotes and end up paying way over the top.

The trouble is, I know the guy and he's due to come out with me for a day to learn the ropes of wfp, I also know he repairs guttering and facias.

A customer of mine last year, did't know I did guttering and called this guy out to un-block her guttering, £80 she paid for 10 minutes work.

Take it Jeff & feel no guilt, business is business & too much greed will kill you. I always say the same, pricing can make you or break you & this guy sounds like a glutten! ;)

How do you do your gutters Jeff? Old fashioned way or some clever way you've devised yourself? ;D

I have had eight phone calls this last week for gutter clearing - all due to the heavy rain.

Fantastic!

(update on that gutter mesh thread, Jeff.)

i usually do gutter jobs whether it rains or not. I had two recently, at £80 each plus normal window price. So i said £20 per side, i think thats about right normally takes about 4-6 hours. I think i will be aiming for large properties at 100-175 now.

We had floods here last week and its not until we have heavy rain do they notice they have a problem.
I try to store my guttering work up for a rainy day, but with so much of it coming in I have to get it done.

Replied to your post ;)

Jon if its taking you 4-6 hours at that price, I would invest in the gutter lance and pressure washer, once you get used to it, you will do those jobs in half the time.

The cost of my pressure washer and lance with all the bits has been recoverd several times over and I bought it the end of last year.
