well after 20 years of watching them lie through their teeth night after night i do belive they are now actually getting tye forcast right..bout bleedin time 8)

I find they're usually pretty accurate - and I reckon they forecast slightly worse to allow for whinging media reporters!

Funny you should say that. Only the evening before yesterday our local weather forcaster on itv was forced to apologise after they had told us it would be bright and sunny all afternoon- It bucketed down full pelt all afternoon. Need I say more? They still don't get it right round where I am from!

It seems every time I watch / listen to the weather forecast it is totally different to the previous one for the same time period. ::)
I reckon they are hedging their bets and telling us everything will happen in the hope they will get it right! ;D

I live and work within a mile or two of the Met office here in Exeter, Devon.
Ever since this new HQ opened up it has officialy got less than 60% of the forcast correct.
Even today was sposed to be rain till late afternoon, not had a drop here all day! They are kin useless!!

why take notice of the weather forcast how many times is it right , if we trusted this wed never be working come on theres snow on the high ground on friday , sun beaming down on sunday , heavy rain monday & tuesday , then we get 3 days of sun and thats it summers over ;D

Gives you a rough estimate, but it's almost always right, it's brilliant.

I am a weather forecaster.
Here is the forcast for tomorrow.
"The weather will be the same as it was today"
I will give Saturdays weather tomorrow

gets me when they say "rain in parts" err which effin parts ::) :D :D

I agree with Malc, they're usually pretty good.
It's not like it was.
If they say it's going to rain in the afternoon, 9 times out of 10 it does.
Things change though, so you should check every day if you're bothered about it.
I wouldn't rely on forecasts for 3 or more days ahead.

Just looked at the BBC 5 day forecast and todays (Friday) is still on there, heavy showers is the prediction, not a drop of rain has fallen all day, it's been sunny and warm!!!!!!!!
As someone else has said, get up, look out of window and make your own forecast, how much money would be saved.
Who funds the Met Office, expect it's the good old reliable tax payer?

I often wondered if the weather(wo)man got performance related pay if the forecast would be more accurate!

You said it all. "5 day forecast"
Try looking previous night or that morning.
It won't be far wrong then.

i have found the bbc site to be the most accurate i've seen but the 5 day forecast not so much.
I work within 15 miles of where i live and i can leave the house in rain and it will be bright and sunny where i end up.
Other local factors can also change things.
for example:
although there is no scientific evidence i can find, but around here the rain clouds seem to follow the rivers.
Also, when the tide is coming in, there is more likelihood of rain than if it is going out.
Strange i know, but i have noticed it since i've been wc. Speaking to farmers on my round as well and they seem to have known this for years.

Best thing I ever done was stop watching the forecast, just work, if it rains carry on, if it is raining when I start little harder but carry on, thunder I give up if it carry' s on>:(
