just exploring the different avenues to go down for a guttervac..a omnipole system or a carbon modular pole with vac attached homemade system.... anyone with any experience or views on the above would be appreciated.,.cheers
-
I use the Omnivac system. Since buying it we have used it for many applications as well as gutter cleaning. Its a good bit of kit, spares and additional bits are always available. We use is comfortably up to 48 ft. Its the only system that will do this except for Mr H's diy version which is very similar in many ways.
I have tried all of the current systems that are available including Mr H's diy vac and I would still buy the Omnivac version.
Commercially, it will make you many times its cost in a very short time with a little applied marketing.
Give Omnipole a call, you wont look back ;)

Meaning? I should think about a MK2 Gutter Grabber? Cost: £30.
How much for a vac from omnipole?
-
prices start at £1200 to £4700 for a full system with vac, pole, attachments, generator, pressure wash,& the obligatory cuddly toy :o :o :o
-
The hose no longer goes up outside the power pole its a new semi telescopic design. It may be expensive to some but on our last job we saved the client 18k on scaffolding - imagine what I charged... LOL The machine now seems cheap and very replaceable.
I looked at all the gutter vacs and believe me this one is the best by far.
Welcome to the forum Kev R (newbie again) :)
Thanks Wayne - Logging in problems you know ;)
-
After weeks of diying a vac system I bought the new through the pole Omni - there just something about it that works a lot better than my diy.

Good on you Jeff, hows it going with the Omnivac?

kev
did you use the old pole where the tube goes on the outside? If so did it do the job, just weighing up weather to go for that and save mysen some cash,go for the new one or alex gardeners diy job which is a lighter pole.

Did you hire it ??

You can go the DIY route but the savings are minimal to the amount of time you will spend building your own. Also If you go the DIY carbon fibre pole route it will not last as long as the Aluminum Omnivac pole (not powerpole). Jeff Brimble one of this forums DIY masters has bought one so what does that tell you?
I dont hire my Omnivac as its in use most of the time.
Trust me, stop scrimping pennies and buy one, you'll make a killing with a little applied marketing. I only target 3-4 story or commercial work and I charge well, but not as much a cherry picker hire + Labour or scaffolding+ Labour prices, but its more than I ever earned window cleaning per hour for sure! ;)
-
i must admit that this guttervac topic has inspired me to look into going down this road. It's good of you, glyn, groundhog, and the others to post such good information about it.
-

I bought the lot but never got the cuddly toy - I will have to have a word with Glynn..LOL ;D
-
I would go for plastic drainpipe as your piping. Some don't like it, as it can be wobbly, but I have now rivetted two sections together to stop this.

So help me its true and I had to bite the bullet to find out ! but then if you have a negative approach - I would say that wouldnt I :-[ after shelling out good money I should have too much pride to say otherwise. :-[
Glynns sytem works, off the shelf and outta the box !

Love to see it being used at five floors high on youtube :)
I Bet it would get a load of hits
-
Oh, did I forget to say that this only applies to two storey houses? Silly me! ;D

Oh, did I forget to say that this only applies to two storey houses? Silly me!
What a shame ;D I had imagined you chasing it about as it swayed around at five floors, like a circus performer balancing plates on a pole, what great entertainment that would be for all.
I am sure it works very well at the height your using it. :)
-
I have used Glyns Guttervac and found it workes very well up to 30ft but above that it does start getting very heavy especially if using for long periods of time and there are plenty of attachments which is good to.
I am even thinking about getting one for every day use if he comes up with a good price for just the pole.
But if your a oneman band wanting to work heigher than 30ft (as the Omnivac needs a second person using a stabaliser pole) then look to adding a carbonfibre modular pole to your setup as it is a lot lighter and easier on the muscles.
You never know Glyn might do you a good deal on the Emporium poles he sells or as I did use SL2 base sections.
Both systems have been discussed in:-
www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=51156.0
I'm not knocking Glyns system at all, just pointing out some benefits of the carbonfibre one.
Regards
Mr H
PS... Don't even bother asking about the Ionics system.......
-
Valid points indeed but I have had only done one job for five stories in all the time I have had the system. Most I do seems to be a max of four. Maybe because I live in the west country.
You did need a second person with a support pole but at the costs to clean 5 stories, employing someone for the day Is factored into the cost.
To be honest any thing higher than four stories you need a cherry picker, because accidently dropping pieces of slate or large sections of turf down from the nozzle at that height is quite frankly dangerous.
Apart from Glenn I probably am one of the most experienced users or the Omnivac system, as its pretty much in constant use.
The system has height limits because of falling debris that the nozzle is too small to suck up. Also breaking up of this debris with a hook is next to impossible at this height. Also when you use the pole you are standing right under the gutter in the prime area for falling debris strike. 48 ft is the limit for the omnivac system for very good reason.
I have seen Mr Hs system and It is all he says it is, but I have considered cleaning gutters above five stories and with a carbon fibre pole or an aluminum pole I believe its to dangerous for the operator just because of the falling debris issue. I will not be buying a carbon fibre pole for this reason alone, nothing to do with wear or weight.
Mr H has said also that he would buy the Omnivac pole for the lower level stuff (up to 4 stories?) so with that in mind as well as our own diy expert Jeff Brimble buying the Omnivac system the answer in my eyes is very clear. ;)

Here are a few videos from youtube - some more sensible than others.

The first one is the Upkeeper.
-
And the second
-
Third's a grabber device. ::)
-
Fourth is a remote device for flicking crap out of the gutters.
No sign of the Omnivac or other methods.
-
I didn't say it was exhaustive.
Here's Omnivac.

Looks to me like it should be filed under Mickey Mouse.

The Omnipole listing on youtube uploaded in 2006
That was a prototype

I really dont know why I bother, that video came from 2006 the technology has come on leaps and bounds since then. Sure go out and buy your tongs and upkeepers and I will keep earning the £££ while you domestic boys earn your pence - there really is no helping some
At least test these things for yourselves and stop with the silly comments ;)

don't let anyone put you off posting.
I'm finding the guttervac posts are some of the most interesting posts on here.
-
I really dont know why I bother
Get yerself another cliché KevR, as we're bored of this one.
-
I won't let anyone put me off posting. I'll take notice of well-meant replies. Offensive replies say EVERYTHING about the poster and NOTHING about me.
Couldn't agree more; youhave to be able to see why certain people post what they do.
Keep posting more info on ALL gutter clearing products, everyone, don't be put off by people who call your comments, 'silly'.
-
So why on earth don't you make your videos keep up with the technology? I stand by what I said: the device shown in the video looks Mickey Mouse and hardly worth of a second glance, except to see how to bodge things together. Compared to the upkeeper, it is laughable.
If you publicise Mickey Mouse stuff, that's what people think you have. If you now have something worthy of merit, post an up-to-date video.
Before you pass comments like that you really ought to be aware that it is your responsibility to keep me and others like me informed. I have no responsibility to seek you out and ask if that's the latest offering.
Quote/I really dont know why I bother, .../Quote
If you can't keep things up-to-date, then I don't think that you DO bother.
Firstly its not my responsibility to keep you or others informed as I OWN an Omnivac I dont sell them or have any connections to the company except as a customer. I offer free advice on my findings and yes I have tested them both and a few more systems too!
Secondly, Its your responsibility to keep yourself informed and keep your business at the fore front of this technology if you want your business to succeed. Business is competitive if you dont want to keep up with technology and you are happy to plod along earning a few quid good for you, but if you going to come on forums why not offer sound advice or constructive comment or just shut up.
Thirdly, have you tried the Upkeeper or the Omnivac in the flesh - I think not as otherwise you would know the differences but you carry on enjoying sitting in your own ignorance as Its no skin of my nose.
;)
-
How long have you owned Omnivac? Has Glynn sold up?
-
Wally
I didnt post the video a customer filmed it at an open day we had.
If you require up to date information with regard to ours or any other cleaning equipment , then I suggest you subscribe to one of the several cleaning industries trade magazines eg. C&M, CHT or Cleaning Matters.
-
Thank you for feed back and constructive comments :D
Emulating the marketing and income generated by Mickey Mouse is a good business goal for me to aim for.
-
Sorry to but in.
Can I just say I know nothing about gutter vacs, but if there is one stand out person on this forum known for his forthrighness and wanting to find a better cheaper way it is groundhog. And he has very recently posted rave revues about the omnivacs ease of use and effectiveness.
-
I really don't want to be snotty about this, but it really isn't up to me to go searching for up-to-date info about your commercial products.
If I were in the market (and I'm not) I would find what information is currently available and use that to make an informed decision.
If' I were looking for a vacuum system to clean gutters, I would have found that video, tittered to myself, dismissed it out of hand and then gone and found something to take seriously.
If you have an up-to-date machine, why on Earth do you have an out-of-date video?
Smacks of Mickey Mouse to me.
I think your assumed name sums it up mate.
Omnipole and other companies advertise where it most effective to do so. Internet video hosting is not the place to find quality products but if you are in fact a wally you may believe it is. If a company wished to hunt down people that are "not in the market for one" they would know where to look. Thank you for taking part in a debate you dont understand and for helping to assure members on this forum of your true intentions. It really is a wally that engages his mouth (or fingers in this case) without engaging his brain first - well done you ;)

Wally
Thanks for Posting that photograph that was also taken at the begining of 2006 by The Health and Safety Executive.
The photograph was a "still" for a DVD that they produced and then supplied to 20,000 Facility Management and Construction companies in the UK.
Interestingly the HSE didnt think the Omni Guttervac was Mickey Mouse, as they spent many thousands £ filming, producing and distributing the DVD
-
Dont suppose it can it still be bought ? (DVD)
-
glyn
I already have the powerpole which I bought from yr company 18 mnts ago... can I still buy the original MK1 version from you with tools etc.....if I can and in time to come will this tool kit fit the new adapted pole? At the moment I need to reach 30 foot
-
It may be that the OmniVac is a well-designed system rigourously custom manufactured and tested. It might even be effective. I don't know and I really don't care.
go away then and stop being annoying for the sake of it ;)
In case you missed the point of this thread it was for advice on the available gutter cleaning systems - so if you have nothing constructive to add, stop spoiling it for others ;)

I know this post is meant for Glynn but let me help if I may,
I really would suggest buying the new pole for couple of reasons
1. The new pole is lighter and easier to use
2. Your power pole can still be used for flushing (with high pressure attachment) and also for using the gutter spike to break up large pieces soil etc, and for the camera.
I started with only the gutter vac but now I have the full system.
I have trailer mounted the system which makes it easier for me to use it on my own (The necessary 6 kva generator is very heavy so it stays in the trailer). I was really surprised at how much work this system has brought me. It really is a worth while investment.
I remember when wfp first arrived loads of people knocked it and still do, but all the good firms that make good money have adopted it for very good reason, I know it will be the same with the Omnivac. Spend the money and you wont look back, just like with wfp ;)
-

Hi Jeff
I will get a copy sent to you.
Hi cvdewsbury
Yes we can still supply the MK1 version and the majority of the componants are interchangeable with the new version. But as Kevin stated the original PowerPole still forms much of the complete GutterVac system.
Are you still charging 2006 prices?
Yes
-
Cheers Glyn, ;) its for my LA H&S officer- just got on the contractors list so want to impress him and go for the Council jobs seeing how contractors cannot use ladders, I am hoping no one else is on it 8)
-
Could I have a copy of the DVD as well please Glyn??

No probs
