Been to quote for a job which is the worst carpet I have ever seen in my 8 years cleaning,a lot worse than the pub pictures that Len posted :o Now the woman does not know what it is but it looked like dog poo to me (advantage of having no sense of smell) it happened in the 2 weeks she was away which I don't believe for one minute.Quoted £150 which is way above my normal charge as machine would need sanitising etc etc but she only had £100 but I stood my ground and said it would be the £150 I quoted.
Would any of you do it for the £100,I'm not short of work and this would take me out of the picture for most of the day?
-
if its most of the day i would say £150 is very reasonable and certainly wouldent do it for less../unless your desperate for bizniz Simon
-
Hi Steve,
I have done real bad jobs in the past and probably will do many more in the future,as long as it's worth my while that is, but what amazes me is the people with the filthiest carpets want to pay the least money????? If it was me I would have done the same as you..........no dosh no wash! ;D
All the best
John

If the job is to take most the day then NO i would not do it for £100. Your £150 is more realistic. How large was the room to be cleaned? It would have to be pretty big if its going to take most the day.

Small flight of stairs and smallish lounge but I used a scraper to see what colour the carpet should be it was that bad.Covered in dog hair too
-
What do you want to earn for a days work, if its going to take a day then thats what you should charge, £150 seems low for a days work.
-
Ok maybe a full morning,if she had not been following me I would have taken a picture, one other thing she has had a few cleaners out already who refused to do it
-
Don't think I would have:
A) Done it for less than £150.00 - to be honest if it took up a whole morning then it would have been £250.00 min.
B) Er actually I dont think I would have gone near it anyway - some you just gotta turn down!
Steve, your a braver man than me ;D
-
I enjoy the really bad ones, I would have done it for £150 if it was a mornings work,
but what worries me is she only had £100, what sort of person can't scrape up another £50, I have that in loose change around the house.
if you do it for £100 then make sure its cash, like I said, anyone who can't find an extra £50 must be on the bones of their ar~e so the cheque could be bouncy
-
for a whole day.............
i'll do it for £600
-
Try to take asome pics if you go back Steve, would love to see it!
-
If we were quiet i would do it, but if busy then just walk, you dont really need do you!
regards
steve

perhaps we need to remember what we do for a living, clean carpets
what would we say if we were ill in bed and called the doctor, when he arrives he says.....
"sorry i don't do really ill people, only people that are a little bit ill :o :o
of course we don't want to clean really bad carpets and would prefer to clean carpets that just need a freshen-up but in the end we should take the rough with the smooth.
mike
-
i don't agree mike, if its that bad i would'nt do it
i prefer to take the smooth with the smooth
sod the rough!
-
If you've seen Colin he's rough anyway it can only get smooth from there on ;D

£150 is exactly what I charged for cleaning this steve,
what a stink :o
but i can put up with that for 150 quid, for around an hours work :)

Geoff it was much worse than that you could not see the carpet, anyway I don't think she will be back in touch too expensive
-
BAD NEWS
SHE WANTS IT DONE NEXT THURSDAY :'( :'( (If she can get the other £50 together ::))
-
Heres some before and after pics of a one I did on Friday. Nowhere near as bad as Steve's I bet!
-
No Clinton not got the Prowler yet (possible delivery is Tuesday so fingers crossed). No job done with Excel portable and scrubber lol
-
Yes i will mate.
Was originally going to purchase one from John Kelly until I saw a second hand one for sale in the states for $2500 (approx £1400). With import duty and shipping its going to cost me a little over £2000. A new one on finance was going to cost £9500 so i think I did the right thing. I suppose i could have bought one outright for £6500 but that would have made me a bit short.
Its in the UK now and will probably be delivered on Tuesday.
Ill still buy all the hoses, wand, chemicals etc from JK as his unit is 5 mins walk from me (bloody handy). Im paying him to do a complete service on the machine when it comes even though ive seen pics and it looks spot on but you never know.

Result she's just cancelled ;D
John did that fella from Clayton street get in touch with you?
-
She's found someone cheaper. ;D
-
Yes Steve he did. Sorry I didnt realize it was you who gave him my number - thanks! I had to decline him at the time as I did my back in lifting that damn Extracta Excel about!
To be honest I try and avoid the city centre as best I can because it can be a nightmare at times!
I picked up the Prowler today from the airport and JK is giving it a service for me. According to the guy I bought it from it has only been used 10 times which is complete cobblers! Its still in good shape and John reckons it was a bargain for 2 grand (wand with glides included).
Hopefully be using it next week so a bit nervous of the leap but it has to be done!
-
He was wanting it done on a Saturday too, only when he gave me his address did I realise there would be no parking.
-
I asked a friend to do it and I think he is going to oblige. Kevin from Killingworth (Whizclean) who I think you know - he has a portable
-
Yes I know Kevin, get the prowler there he reckons you can park outside the building I don't think so ::)
-
Yeah you can imagine the hoses lying along the pavement down Clayton street!!! No bother!! LOL
