Title: Yell update
Post by: lands on June 03, 2008, 07:38:13 pm
The order was pulled I'm afraid and we have had to re-submit using the same Co. name throughout. I have chosen "carpet & upholstery cleaners". Everyuthing esle will remain specific to you  (address, tel no. and website.

Its been uploaded into the system today and having asked for a live date the best they can do is the 26th jun.

On a positive note, I got 11 calls from it on Friday (my record)

Have put on here as I can't be bothered to email everyone individually. Started work at 5am today and only just got in.

If anyone wants to ask me anything about it then please leave it until tomorrow as I'm exhausted.

Pete

Hi Pete

Glad to see things have picked up on your marketing.

At your age a 14 hour day should be a walk in the park ;)

Speak to you soon.

Cheers

Doug

That's very disappointing Pete, I wish you could have been bothered to tell us sooner, it's pretty much a waste of money for me(for which I still don't have a receipt) I've spent thousands building up a corporate image  here :( with vehicle wraps, letterheads etc - now I look like the new boy-definitely not a good idea in this area. :(
Title: Re: Yell update
Post by: lands on June 04, 2008, 12:31:31 pm
Just read your post Dave

I only just found out about this myself and will not be issuing reciepts until it goes live as I mysllf will not be getting one until it does. Sorry you feel this way after all the work I have put in.

Do you want to cancel yours because I can do that any time before it goes live and that goes for anyone else for that matter?

The Co. name issue is nothing because if someone is looking at your entry they will click through to your website and see all your branding.

Let me know and I will send you a cheque back by return.

Pete

No complaints from me Pete , not for the money we have saved Yell wanted 400 quid off me for just 1 area

Well done   John

Pete, I do appreciate all the work you put in, I just think you should have told us when this blip occured, not after. I also understand your point about names but as I've said before this is a strange area with very strong local ties, people are often looking for that van they saw last week and missed the tel no or that chap mrs x recommended but who's name they couldn't quite remember. If you can cancel my portion and refund it it would be appreciated and go towards paying yell direct. I'm glad you've made the offer and I hope we won't fall out over this.

I`m with John. Bit disappointing, But hey, sh*t happens.
I`m sure it must of taken up a lot of your time.
Don`t get stressed about it.
Cheers

Would have been nice to have my name in place but not overly disappointed.
Paying considerably less than half the cost if I'd set it up myself, plus a good link from a good wesbite to my own website.

Pete no probs here, im happy to go with it.
You have done a lot of work on this to save us a load of doe and get a good position, so from me thanks.

I have no issue with not having my name on top as they will be directed to my web site any way, and at the end of the day its the phone call we want anyway to start the process off and this will do just that.

Just to add. The reason I deleted the message was after his big speal, he gave me his contact number so fast I couldn`t  catch it.  ::)
There was no way I was all listening to it all again, Can you fast forward and pause  on a mobile? now that would be cool.

Just had the same telephone call as Rab ( 4pm Saturday afternoon they must be keen) £90 with link , the only difference is that you don't get the 6 bullets on the ad , hence you get a smaller ad ,

John

Title: Re: Yell update

It appears that you always appear below the main adverts but just above the free listings and as John says, no bullet points.

i got this deal a while back and was told that it was a new service they were offering for £90 its the same as the free listing but with a website link, trouble is it will only come up if they search for the town your in or county, so if you service other towns in your area it wont show

Thanks Pete,
I committed to yell on Thursday, cost me £542 but it does cover a much wider area than we talked about and I get interest free over 10 months. The most astonishing thing was the ad went live on Saturday morning! They mustn't have much on at present! Yours was a good saving, shame it didn't work out for me,
All the best!
Dave

Post by: lands on June 08, 2008, 08:11:42 pm
Good luck with it Dave

Remember the, the directory area coverage means you will only appear on the right hand side boxes on any searches outside your area. Unfortunately these yield poor results. I just hope that the searches under your local area make up for that.

Both my adverts are live checked at 08.00am this morning - only got website up and runnig at about 02.00am  ??? after a major crisis, but thankfully got it sorted. The link to the website is working fine.

I am currently last in the listings (the premium listings that is) does this change from day to day?
I know the free Yell.com listings do, one day your page one, the next you could be on the last page.

Guys,

Technically, they are not live yet which is why no matter how many times you do a search you will appear last in the paid for listings. After midnight tommorrow this will change and you will get the same craqck of the whip so tyo speak. There does appear to be a couple of errors with some which I will sort Monday am. Clinton Yours should be appearing so I will look into this also. Can everyone check theirs as well as I will put a call in Monday am to rectifiy.

It s all under Carpet and Upholstery care. Which IMO sounds better, as we dont always clean, we also care,ie stain removal, protection and lots of different add ons and advice we give to our customers.

As it comes up in the listings when they type in cleaner I see no issue.

Hi Pete

In my listing Truro is spelt like that not Turo and i wanted my local number on not 0800 695 1034

ie.

01872 275534

Unless of course both can be displayed!

Cheers Goron

Hi Goron

Yes you can have both listed so I will get that done tomorrow for you and of course the address mistake.

Can you all remember to ask (when custy says they got you from YP) is that the book or the internet as they do say it for both.

No calls yet Pete  :(

Next to bottom of 2nd page - seems stuck there.

Do they rotate or what?

Post by: lands on July 01, 2008, 06:04:34 pm
My new ones are the same Joe but it does'nt seem to be like that for everyones. I asked about that yesterday and they said it can take a about 5 days for some of them to kick in to the rotation/random positioning. Sounds like a load of cobblers to me but we'll keep on top of it and see what happens. If no change then I will chase at the end of the week.

With all of your subsidiaries Pete how many calls do you tend to get a week on average?

Paul are you going out to quote every one or phone estimate them?

I'm trying to work out  the best way of dealing with Yell callers.

I would say Shaun that if you discount Jan/Feb I get about a call per branch per week on average (with some branches performing better than others of course). What i have found is that the coversion rate on calls taken as they ring is at about 70% with those I miss it's about 40%. There is a valuable lesson here though. If someone is using Yell they are looking at a list of CCs in their area. They are also using a very quick (I have decided to buy now medium) unlike many other forms of advertising (leaflet etc. whey they can keep it buy the phone or something in particular has grabbed their attn.

The point is, it's important you take that call because there are few other mediums that offer you an alternative service provider so easily.

Would be interested to get Pauls take on your other question but to be honest I find that they are slightly more inclined to get that quote on the phone but if you are a good communicator the home survey is not often required and you still get the job at a decent price. Classic example today. Woman rang for quote on double bedroom and said I am "ringing round for some quotes" . No furniture and lighty soiled. I asked her if she had ever had a carpet cleaned before to which she said no so I then asked if she knew the correct procedure to clean a carpet again no. I talked her through, asking lots of relevant questions and basically striking up a rapport. At the end I qouted £65. How quickly can you do it came the reply.

In short (and this is a major generalisation) the Yell callers are doers (with an element of thinker in them) this is why they use yell. This balance means they make decisions quickly if they hear something that makes sense and has value. This tel-con was a classic example albeit for a small job.

Shaun

I always try to steer them in the direction of me coming out to quote onsite by asking where they live and telling them I'm in that area this afternoon or whenever, but some are price shopping and will just say 'I'm just wanting a rough idea of cost' as they put it, thats when I struggle, this is something that comes with experience I guess.

I am by no means a natural salesman & if anyone out there wants to offer a workshop for telesales techniques I would be first in the line. ( Pete hint hint  :) )

How many Yell areas are you advertising on Pete?

Hi Paul

To do it properly I would need at least 3-4 hours and thats too long for a session at the ccdo. Also, I am at the arse end of England so it would be difficult for many to get here.

Had my first contact...via my website, booked to pick up and clean 10x6 rug. Thats £100 paid off the bill, picking it up on wed.
I think that if we were in normal times we would be recieving many more calls but I am confident that our investement is sound.

Hi Goron

I will chase them and complain as this'll be the third time I have requested this. It has slowed up a bit on the new bus call front but then so has all my other ad mediums.

Hi Goron

Sorry mate, should have kept you updated. Apparently there is a problem that many face in your area. I only have the control that any other yell custy has (which most of you know from exp will know as being very little). Am on top of them. Invoices will get done too just a bit behind and as invoices (though important) are not req'd for any other reason than that of 04 next year its not top of my list.

:) Hi guys does yell work is it worth going with as I am moving area shortly and want to try somthing new :-\ its been dead here since last may!

It seems yell.com is working better for most carpet cleaners then yellow pages.
A benefit is that it can be on-line pretty quick too - no waiting for a publishing date.
