Hi Guy's
I've really gone and done it now :'(
On Friday the Boss was away for the day and I thought I would surprise her, by painting the living room door and frame?
All was going well, until we had a power cut, I started down the steps to investigate why the electricity had gone out and slipped, I went to grab the 1ltr tin of gloss, that I had perched on one of the steps and ''Yes'' you guessed it? Instead of grabbing the tin I somehow pushed it outwards down the steps over the suite and onto the carpet :o
I scrambled for loads of cloths and started to clean it up, I used a large full bottle of thinners but this only seemed to make matters worse, can any one suggest a way of removing white gloss paint from a Draylon suite and an axminster carpet.
To top it all, she went to record a program in the evening and found that the power cuts (we had 2 of them) caused a surge of electricity in her DVD recorder and now that doesn't work either. :'(
Please don't give me a hard time as I have already had that, especially when she found out I had used her best T-Towels to clean it up, (oops!) and yes the Boss did get her surprise, only not the one I was planning, I need to do some serious groveling ;D so any help will be most appreciated.

Use Nitromors on the dralon suite, work it in towards the centre of the spillage i've done it in the past and it works, real Dralon is bulletproof (you can put bleach on it and it wont hurt it) however dont use it on the carpet unless its woven ie, Axminster or Wilton as it will probably cause the carpet to delaminate, just use it on the surface of the pile.
If not call the Ins Co.

Being the dumbo I am (well the boss said I'am ;D) what is Nitromors and were can I get some?
and will it still work as the gloss paint is dry.

Nitromors is paint stripper.
Get it from all hardware stores B&Q etc.
Doesnt matter if it has set, work it onto the spot or stain it will soften it up so you can scrape/vac it up. DONT RUB IT you will only push it around more.
Test on small area first so you can see what happens, you will see it soften, then scrape it with a spoon or similar. It is a gel so it wont run.
Have you got a wet vac or HWE machine you can then suck it up with that.

I never used to hide mine Joe, but all of a sudden I started to get hundreds and I mean hundreds of spam emails.
I ended up changing my email address and now try to hide it on-line as much as I can.
I have no problems giving my email out to anyone else.

I got in touch with the insurance company today and there coming out on Thursday to see the damage, Knowing my luck, they'll get one of you boy's in and you'll end up cleaning it, doing a good job and the Boss won't get her new carpet or 3 piece I just promised her, Why can't I just keep my big mouth shut?
The old saying springs to mind, stop digging a bigger hole and throw away the shovel.
The icing on the cake came when she couldn't record Sad enders or something of that name. ;D

Don't worry if its as bad as you say it is then you'll get your new suite and carpet. Only problem if its only the sofa thats damaged then most policies will only replace that, not matching chairs.

OMG :o its only a chair and a little bit on the sofa arm that got covered in paint, will they just replace a chair then, but wouldn't it have to match the rest of the suite.

Doubt it Jeff, it's a bit like carpet warranties. If you got the same colour and make throughout the whole house and you get a stain in the hall, they're not going to replace all the carpets cos it might look different.
Shame though :(

Forget the cleaning and call your ins co. it depends on which company you use and more importantly how much you paid (ie. 4 star policy, top of the range covers everything.) to whether they will replace the suite or just the damaged items.
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY WHETHER YOU HAVE ACCIDENTIAL DAMAGE COVER, or you are in the dog house a long time.

and the same applies to kitchen units, if your base ones are damaged but the wall ones are ok, then you only get base ones, don't matter if they don't match. cos most people don't know this till they claim.

I've lost count of the amount of people I've had to tell they will only get the damaged units replaced and then dive for cover. Especially if a pans caught fire and burnt the cupboards either side.
Make sure your policies cover matching items. Costs a little more but well worth it.

I took out new for old this included accidental damage so that gets me out the dog house a little bit and its with the boss's bank NAF West. (no typo error)
I have had Insurance all my life and this is the first time ever I have started to make a claim.
I'm so unlucky, I bet the guy comes in with some miraculous cleaner in his pocket that non of you guys have ever heard of and he'll wipe it all off
I'll let you guy's know how I get on with it, thanks for all the advice, the only advice no one gave me was to chuck a load more paint over it. :o ;D

Nat west are unwritten by another insurance company, so you will probably get one of the franpoop companies, to inspect

You get no brownie points off insurance companies or loss adjusters for busting a gut trying to restore something when the customer still will not be happy at the end because they expected it to be replaced. It will be visit and report and out the door.

Do not think so. My son put a hole in our bath when he slipped
Got a replacement while bath to match pink suite.
I did find out that you could get a clourmatch and a pink bath made but this was after settlement
At the time it would have cost £700 to make bath.
Perhaps you could ave chair reupholsteed to Colour Match if paint can not be removed

it did not happen. So we will never know.
chances are somewhere else in the small print it will say that the bath does not have to match, or some other get out clause

They won't be sending a cheque but vouchers to replace the goods.
We have to take the vouchers to one of the hundreds of out-lets in the directory he left us (Home comforts) we don't mind that at all as some of the places listed in there are top companies.
Where ever we decide to spend the vouchers we have to give them £125 to cover our access.
I would Just like to say thank you to everyone who gave advice and for the email's and phone calls.
A big thank you guy's, I'm back in the Boss's good books now. 'O' and I've been banned from painting ever again (great news Lol)

Just like to say a big thank you to all you guy's who gave me advice regarding the above issue.
The insurance came through today ;D for the carpet, We found out that there sending a cheque for the suite (don't ask me why they operate this way)
We have to give the carpet company £125 excess that's £100 for the excess and £25 because it was an accident ::) what a weird insurance company we have, this was are first claim in 30 years, so we had no problems with the claim.
Popped down to our local carpet right, just to get an idea on carpet pricing and to replace our axminster is just over £1000 ;D
We may not go for the axminster, if we don't, there will be enough money in the kitty to go for a good quality front room carpet, including grippers, underlay and fitting, if we go for the wilton that the Boss liked, we will also be able to buy carpets, underlay and fitting of new carpets for the hall, stairs and landing. ;D ;D
Any tips of what to look out for on a good carpet, some we seen, you were able to wash with bleach and others had a 7 year stain guard, are these point worth the paper there written on?
Once again the Boss and I would like to thank all you guy's. ;)
