It is possible. Ask your bank. There is quite a steep hire charge though and a charge per transaction.

If memeory serves me right, the hire charge is about £30 per month plus a slice of the transaction cost. Your better off to encourage internet banking

i would like to do this to. would be superb for the "i havent got any money on me gang"

but apart from that, you can get a merchant account with paypal and they can pay direct by logging in. or nochex is a good one. but its handy to have a website with that, so they have links to click on. check out my site and click on payment and youll see what i mean

one thing to remember with these 2 is 2.9% + 20p per transaction, so if they paid £10, youd get £9.51 (not much diff to a envelope and stamp mind)

but what is starting to work really well for me is online banking. i have a little card for the people that have opted for it, have my sort and account number, then they pay direct, if with same bank its instant, and no charge...just make sure you know their surnames as it doesnt say anything else on the statements!  ;)

iv been thinking for a while about the problem of payment.
wouldnt it be good if we could set up standing orders and have some kind of way of taking payment when cleaned(in case we get be hind schedule) for example a bar code that we scan when cleaned?????

does any one know of such a thing

I have been pushing this for months, so far only four customers have taken me up on it.
What works better for me is the addressed envelope, and here's a strange fact,
If I write the customers name and amount owing on the inside of the envelope flap, I get a much better return than if I just leave my cleaned the windows today slip in the envelope.
Writing the persons name puts the responsibility for paying onto that person, rather than them thinking I'll let him or her deal with it.

yes they do a mobile card machine but not sure on cost, but i know if it is a fixed unit i.e shop, its about £20 -£30 per month plus authorisation calls & £150 to puchase machine.

there are a few firms, barclays and streamline are also good value these are known as' merchants'
watch out for contract terms, streamline and barclays are 18 month minimum, the monthly cost usually depend on how much money you use the machine for

dont take the 1st offer you get they will offer you better deal if you play them off against each other!!

Paypal takes seconds for your customers to pay you,the machines can be expensive on the rental although you have to shop around some are far more than others and you have to pay a % of every transaction.

Yes I was going to say that, it's the % thing I don't like!
Customers can set up a Direct Debit... Easy take it when you do it!
Best thing it costs you nothing!  8)

Customers won`t like direct debit in my opinion, your better off with paypal although they still have to pay it`s at there leisure as opposed to direct debit.Another bill each month that`s how they`ll see it even though they might pay you through paypal every month they`ll won`t feel tied in to anything.

Direct debit in this game is suicide, give it a few months when your a bit late and there cancel and i don`t mean the direct debit you`ll be faced with having to take all the moaners back off it.What about rain, holidays etc, asking for trouble and putting pressure on yourself to get round on time.

NWH,

You do a job you want to be paid for it Full stop, set terms if the dont follow suit they get charged a late payment fee, Standing order I use quite abit now, instant payments online is another, paypal is the last on my list as there fee are worse than the banks.

Dont girl thingy foot round people, you are a and I will say it shouting A BUSINESS treat is this way or cost yourself money > (FULL STOP)

Sry if this seems a harsh post but come on this is like one of the first things to learn running a business.
