Title: SLX - dirty hands
Post by: Bonzer on May 28, 2008, 04:39:39 pm
Anyone else finding that as the SLX wears, they are getting very grey hands while extending the pole? I clean it every week like the instructions say but it's getting worse.

I'm going to have to resort to wearing marigolds whilst at work!

You get it with all poles carbon and fiberglass,as time goes on with this pole as it wears it will stop. With fiberglass poles you will always get splinters with them old or new,it sounds like you need a harris pole lol. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Just to stick a spoke in the wheel, its when the annodising wears off the Harris that you will get oxidization off the alu-just like the Unger. It will help if you sleeve the pole base and the top section- you cannot do it with trhe N02 section . Also will help a lot when it gets cold.

Absolutely - it's great. The dirt is not a major issue. I would highly recommend getting one.

You could always wrap the base section in heatshrink. Its on ebay for pennies!

It's not the base section that causes the problem. It's when opening and closing the other sections.

Funny you should ask that Ryan  ;D, but if you check out my thread 'harris pole in action' you will see videos of me using my Harris pole at heights up to 24ft and all for £15 + a few small modifications, I rarely need to go higher than this, but I have some plans to get my Harris pole above 30ft, and I will post videos to prove it once I have done it. I just wish an slx user would do the same, so we could compare like for like, a £400+ pole with an incredible value £15 B&Q Harris pole!!  ;)

Hi Ryan, its Jeff ! there are two different ones on this forum, I am Jeff Brimble and the other who will be along in a bit is Jeff 1. Hes the eleictrical specialist amongst his other tricks.
Poles I use an F16 diy modular section fishing pole, an Emporium Ultralite pole and recently a Harris decorating pole, which at £15 from B&Q is a good starter pole.

Hello Jeff ! Erm i use a 21ft stream line pole and it strugles 3 story , although it can be done !
But it is quite HEAVY !!! I do lots of 3 high work so carbon fibre i thought was the answer ? and SLX being the latest pole out , I thought it was the best .

Never used one Ryan, but on a personal preference I like to use a pole with zero projections whether clamps or otherwise. I do belive in lightness when going higher, so the SLx may be the lightest in the telescopic class ?
