Really strange this, it's a 400l upright from Gardiners, with the vented top, and a plastic 90degree angled barb, plastic.
I've must have put 10 windings of tape on there (the right way around), and screwed it in as far as it go, not all the way in, because I need such excessive force to do so, and it says don't over tighten, which I better not do then.
Anyway, there is still small drip coming from the bottom of it, and I need something to seal it with.
What can I use?
Thanks.

Tim, are you sure the drip is not coming from the hose on the connector?
Peter

use a better quality tape. go to your local plumbers and buy some thicker tape. should cost around £2 for the realy good stuff

Yea I'm 100% sure, because I put my finger under there, it's dry under the hose connector.
I think it's proper tape, because I've got zero leaks anywhere else.
Could I use silicone to seal the plug? I'd hate to drain the tank and lose my pure water. Besides, I don't see how I could get a tighter fit, I already had a hard time screwing it in because of all the tape.

does your tank have a brass outlet on the bottom. sounds to me like you may have split the seal between the outlet and the tank.
if not are you using a plastic threaded hosetail threading into metal? try metal to metal.
-
Yes, I'm using a plastic screw connector, and I've got the brass outlet.
Is there a quick fix to this? Ie silicon stuff?
-
wouldnt think you would be able to stop the leak with silicon without the tank being empty and dry.
i would buy a brass hosetail
-
Hm, I don't see any brass connectors on the net that have an elbow, a straight connector would be no good due to the tank being so close to the side of my van.
-
tim silicone isnt any good for this it just keeps coming away from the plastic .
-
any local plumbers will be able to sort you the fittings out

Drain the tank and cover it in PTFT tape firstly, get some waterproof silicone that you get in a tube and coat the thread in it and do it up.when you`ve done it up put a seal of the silicone round the outside of the elbow also and this will do it i`ve had to do it myself in the past, make sure you get the clear 1 it looks neater.
-
If PTFE wont stop it then you got a problem.
Try 20 wraps building up towards the end of the thread

Thanks NWH, I think I'm gonna try that. How far should I thighten the elbow? All the way in? Because it does stop while it's not fully screwed in yet.

Tighten the elbow right up but don`t force it like you would with something metal like a nut, just do it up as if you would as if you didn`t have a problem with any leaks, start it off gently aswell on the thread sometimes you can do it up to quickly and thread it,you don`t want to do that with plastic, just turn it slowly making sure it`s on the thread correctly.Spread the silicone over the thread thinly and do it up,and like i said before go round the outside of the nut which butts up against the tank and that will stop it leaking.

Nip down to B&Q / Homebase whatever and get some plumbers paiste, the stuff where you have mix 2 different paistes together first.
Works a treat and can be applied to wet situations.

Have you tried a new elbow?
I cant imagine the brass fitting being at fault (if it has only had a plastic elbow fitted)
ptft sound have worked really! ???
