had a call the other day from a lady asking for me to come clean her windows, she kept going on and on about how bad her old window cleaner was from leaving ladder marks in the walls to not cleaning some windows properly and he wanted extra to clean the sills, she said on the phone she didnt mind paying me a bit extra to travel so
i went out there to give her a price the house was quite big i estimated it taking me about 40-50 minutes so i priced it at £25 as she wanted it every 8 weekly and not 4, as it would take me an extra 10 minutes each way to get there from nearest other customer,
she wasnt happy at all said her last window cleaner charged 8 and the most she was willing to pay was 10, i told her how the hell can anyone run a business taking in so little and that charging 8 quid was a joke! i informed her that she'd be better off cleaning them herself!
really annoys me how she kept going on and on about her old window cleaner who was so bad obviously a cowboy but she dont wanna pay the going rate for a proper job!

Oh aye.....
Had one the other day, called me because she said her old window cleaner wasnt very good, he didnt do the sills or the frames, and couldnt do the one above the conservatory....
I priced it at £13... easy job, but a fair price..
She said "Thats a bit dear isn't it? My last window cleaner charged £9..."
Seems for an extra window, frames and sills cleaned... an extra £4 isn't THAT much of a price hike!

with people like that, i don't even discuss the reason for my price, i wind the conversation down and leave...
-
i say well its up to you, thats my price, your not obliged to take it
they usually do when i say that

another old saying -if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.

I had one the other day, from a particular road in an estate where i clean. For some reason they all seem a little crazy on this small road.
Anyway, the voicemail went something like this - 'hello, I have just got your leaflet in my hand and my cleaner has just been a few days ago. I want to see what your price is and if you are cheaper than him. Can you call me to let me know when you will be coming round to give me a price".
Why do they not understand that I know that if I was to take them on, they would be looking to get it cheaper again and to ditch me in the same crappy way. Needless to say she is still waiting for her call back.

Had one the other day ask me to quote. Told her £7 and she replied it was a bit dear. Asked her what her old window cleaner charged and it was £4. I just told her that was why he didn't come any more. Left her my card and told her to let me know if she wanted me to do them. Still waiting, but I bet she will be waiting even longer... ::)

I had a young lad helping me at one time, we were cleaning on an estate when this woman came out and asked the young lad how much he charged. He said that she had better ask the boss, you should have seen her face when she saw me, I had been doing her windows for six months.

would probably have done it for 10-15 quid myself

Hi all you guys, i am new to the forum. canvassed an area the other week and the householder asked how much i charged for a 3 bed house like hers? I gave her a quote of £9.00 and she nearly fell over and said that her previous cleaner charged £2.50 :o and then went on to say that sometimes she would give him 50p for cleaning her conservatory. i had to laugh as i walked back down her path ;D
