Title: Guttering job . . . . never again !
Post by: jonah on May 23, 2008, 10:20:26 pm
Custy asked me to if I could change a leaking gutter connecter , no problem I said  ;D  Went to b&q , bought a white square connecter , tried to fit it . . . . no it wouldnt fit !   went back to b&q with original fitting .  It is 114 mm , and guess what nobody uses this size anymore !     so custy has a gap in her guttering , and its gonna cost her a few quid to change over to 112mm .   Anyway I rang her to explain it was gonna cost her about £150 for me to do the work , and she replied " Thought you said it was a straightforward job " !   Why do I try and do favours for people ?  :'(

Answer is dont touch guttering if you dont know what you are on about, messit up it could cost you thousands to put right.

I did one today and gutters have been put up by an idiot that does not know about levels, I did the gutter clean when it rains again I will get a call to fix the problem. I am insured to do this as I am not that stupid to do things I am not insured for, and gutters are the one of the worst things to cock up if you dont know what you are doing.

Be carful is what I am saying I am not having a dig or I would come straight out with it.

It can cost a lot.

Spot on Ian , I have learnt more about guttering in last day LOL . I explained to customer that she should ring gutter company as she only had them done 2 years ago ! I have seen some really shoddy guttering jobs though !

I rang a company who do only guttering fitting , and he told me that there is no such thing as a "small job" !   There are so many variables , what starts as a "small job can take you a few days !

Get the name of the joiner (union) or number off it, and do a search on google. Someone will have it!

The only thing I ever do with guttering is to pull the odd plant out...end of!

Best to that that I guess, as some jobs are a pain in the bum.

The 112mm will fit, you have to trim the original piece down a touch where it goes inside the bracket
