Title: Keeping Motivated
Post by: steve.ternent on May 22, 2008, 11:01:55 pm
I would like to hear what keeps you motivated ?

This is a mind numbing, monotonous, tedious  job...

I know it's very good pay and your, your own boss (if you are!)

I would just like to hear what keeps you going (apart from money!)  ::)

i have moments when motivation is hard but i feel the busier you get and the more motivation isnt needed(if that makes sense).

making targets and aiming high helps too.

I, for one, would never laugh. But for me it's ... errr ... Handel's Water-fed pole Music

Sorry.

When working on big houses in out of the way places where I can leave the van open, I have Classic fm blasting out.

Sometimes it just has to stop though. Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A just sends me into such rapture that I'm useless for an hour afterwards.

I did a couple of weeks temping in a factory where Radio 1 was blaring out all day. Might suit some. Didn't suit me.

Window cleaning suits me and that is the motivating factor. I can be myself, I can set my own standards of everything and (as long as I please my customers) I can please myself.

And if I want to listen to Clasical music, I can.

As I said, it's Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A. When I'm in the mood, it can have the tears streaming down my face in sheer joy at emotion it brings out in me.

Bach can get to me at times, especially his violin works.

And Einaudi makes me want to self-immolate!!!!

Have the odd day doing your old job. Mine was lorry driving. I still do the odd day to keep my hand, and at the end of the day i say the same thing. Why did i take this job today, give me back my windows.

Motivation is hard...at the moment it is about earning enough to get a mortgage...at that it is anyones guess...but yes this job is and does get very boring, mind numbing.

My round is a little over six years old and I have old compact work which doesn't pay as well as my later better paid work; which often involves driving between jobs.

When my old work is due, I/we find it easy to take a day off, but when my new work is due; we're there no problem, starting as early as we can to pack it all in.

So for us, and other guys I've spoken to, money is a strong motivating force; just make sure you price well and you'll stay motivated.

That was pretty good Tosh, I agree.

You had a dark spell not long ago, talking about chucking it all in and selling insurance. I couldn't understand that.

Glad to see you've got your vitality back.

My stopwatch motivates me, I time every job and make a note of the time. I then strive to beat my best time every time I clean.  :)

Now do not get me wrong..but as my round grows I am getting more houses on the same street...that's all fantastic but on some roads where I have loads of the same type of house...I find I can get a bit bored especially if I am there for hours and hours....do you find the same....now I know this is good business to be inthe same place, less packing/unpacking but never the less...I do get bored at times.

How about you...

Cheers
Dave.

I get bored if i know the round. By taking on different frequency cleans no two weeks are the same. I like the money of compact work but hate the predictability of the day.

I find it hard to get going in the morning. I'm not much of a morning person (too many late nights doesn't help, or having sky plus on in a morning!). My wife does kick my bum a little bit in that area! :-\

Apart from keeping my personal radio/mp3 player on all day so I can switch off I find it motivating to have a monetary target to reach and also having blocks of work rather than bitty work - getting a section of work completed when you need to or quicker makes you feel like you're moving as long as it's well priced. Due bills motivate you very well too :o!!! I sometimes get disillusioned with wfp thinking it's not as easy as traditinal but when I do the odd day traditional I realize how much I prefer wfp and how much faster it really is and I am more motivated and happier to do wfp afterwards!
