at the moment i fill my tank through di with garden hose,my questin is would the resin last longer or any other benefits from having di vessel in the van purifying at i suppose a slower flow rate
many thanks andy (think that makes sence)

Hi Andy,
I fill my tank also with a garden hose through di vessel into my tank in my van. Flow rate does play a vital factor in your life of your resin, for example I have a 11l di vessel and have it half empty at present as I am on my last bag.
My TDS crept upto 002 under normal tap pressure, I then reduce my flow rate and the TDS dropped back to 000. At present I have produced 2000l and still at 000 TDS, if I turned the flow rate up my TDS would creep back up. It's all about volume and flow rate.
As long as you keep your DI vessel in a dry place your resin will not be effected.
Some resins will react in a different way, this is based on Tulsion.
Hope this answers your question.

You won't have any benefit by having it in your van. And you won't produce anymore water by having a reduced feed. Doug the reason you are getting a reading is because your DI tank is not full, and what is happening is the water is not passing through enough resin to purify it properly. Reducing the flow through the vessel should only be beneficial when the resin is on it's way out, or you don't have enough resin in the vessel.

Peter,
That is what I was trying to explain ;D
A lot of window cleaners I know have small di vessels , 7 litres. They have been throwing away resin that can still be used as they were unaware of flow rate. ;)

Peter, do you fill the DI all the way up to the top, or 3/4th? :)
-
I fill them up to just past where it starts to narrow. You want to leave a space for the insert.

I would have 2 di's in van for 3 reasons-
1. fill tank quicker at full mains pressure straight from tap.
2. your resin WILL last longer
3. you can fill tank up from customers outside tap if you run low during the day.
Why do it any other way? ???

you would be very hard pushed to get the vessal full even if you wanted to. I fill to neck of vessell aswell which is about 3/4 when water levels it off.
I have to di's inline and it really does make a very good saving on resin I used to have one and would bin it at 001 as I like water to always be 000.

Morning Ian ;D, does the water pass through the di , then the pump , or other way round ?

Will you still be able to shake the vessel then?
Edit : Oh yea, the part where it becomes narrow is way down, I just realised.

Contrary to your opinions, it is best to get as much Resin in as possible, this will give the best and longest results. To do this fill the Vessel up to the top the push in the filter pipe, if its hard to get to the bottom, softly shake it or tap it lightly on the floor. Then cover the top of the pipe with tape or something similiar and carry on filling the vessel, when no more seams to go in, shake the vessel again and keep doing this until it wont go anymore. Make sure the thread is clean and put the head back on. I used to fill these vessels preofessionally and we used a vibrations table to get maximum resin in. If you have space in the vessel the TDS value will be/or get higher quicker.

Do not do this, the worst advise i've seen in some time. :o

I agree also. ::)
resin needs to move, if you pack it it cant you will use more resin this way IMO

In the end it won't make much difference, the bigger the vessel the longer it will last, BUT only because it holds more resin. The economy will remain the same regardless of what size the vessels are. I use 2 x 11Ltr vessels.

That's why you use SOOOOOOOOO much resin! ;) & help to keep foxman in the lifestyle he's become accustomed to. :D

I use so much resin because we use 2000 L of pure water a day, every day, sometimes more. and it keeps me in a better lifestyle than him

I dont throw my resin away until it reaches about 90 tds, surely I cant get much more out of it no matter how slow i turn the flrow down ?

what is your tds out of your tap Dave ?
-
tds fluctuates seasonally between 73 - 93.
I use a 3 di system sometimes 2, with the tap water never going through less than 36 L of resin at a time usually 61 L.
When the end tds rises to 2 it goes in front of the fresh resin
