I need to know exactly where you find proof of what model it is.
ie. 800? 1000? or 1200?
www.whatvan shows a 1.9tD 1200, but all insurance companies say there is no such model.
I know it's a 1.9tD swb, but I need to get it's payload right.
So assuming there are only the two to choose from where will it be identified?
On my van which is not a VW there is no way of telling the payload on any docs I have.
-
Log book.
-
T26 = 800kg
T28 = 1000kg
T30 = 1200kg
T32 = 1400kg
-
Mine is a 1.9 swb T32
Is it a T4 or a T5
T4s are a bit long in the tooth T5s so much better
-
I don't really know anything about them.
T4?
T5?
I wouldn't know the difference. It's 01 if that means anything.
I looked through the log details but obviously not thoroughly enough, all it described was 1.9tD swb
-
if its 01 it is probably a t4 which is quite old now, I expect you are paying around the £5k mark.
The newer T5s start about £8k + vat for a decent low mileaged second hand one form a vw dealer.
I wouldnt buy one private, all the best ones are on dealer forecourts

Still got it , thinking of trading it in.
Your van should be advertised as a 800 , 1000 or a 1200, have you got a link to the ad ?
-
it will be a 1200kg payload then, confirm it by looking at the log book and service manual.
Come to think of it i think the 1.9 were 850 kg 950 and 1000 and the 2.5 were 1200kg
There is always the oddballs , like my van a 1.9 swb t 32 window van they are as rare as rocking horse pooh in that combination
even so a 1000kg should just about do it if you stick to 650 kg tank
-
as its a short wheel base, most would have been 800's
-
my t4 swb is a 100kg which i was told was the larger payload
-
Thanks Dave
I'll be happy if it's 1000. 850/950 is no good.
Just read matt's reply...I have a rotten feeling you're right
-
pj
just looked in the book, the swb payloads are 945 and 995
the increased payloads are 1115, 1145 and 1205 kg
-
you can also get the reduced payload of 800
-
pj
put up a link to the autotrader advert, just take away the www. but and we can look at it
-
Hi matt
just go to autotrader used vans and stick in vw transporter between £4k & £5k it's the 7th one down on 1st page.
-
pj
they list them by postcode distance from ones own house
-
don't forget to close the gap after http
first it reads not found, then click on small google window in toolbar and up it pops.
-
i found it , it is 33 miles form your house
Looks like the 1200 payload to me
-
well it says it is, but according to all the insurance brokers VW didn't do a 1.9tD swb 1200. Or does the 1200 refer to something else in the ad. ?
-
no the 1200 defo relates to the payload, my handbook says there is a 1200 swb 1.9
-
Thanks for your help on this Dave.
Would that refer to a 2001 model too?
-
just get the reg and phone your local VW comefcail dealership tomorrow, they will tell you if its a 800 or 1200 on the phone
looks like a nice enough van
i know the car auction at newport just had a load of ex AA T4's in, some went at 3.8 K plus VAT ( 03 plate ), of course some went for the 5.5 K aswell ( 04 and 05 plate )
-
Well, after phoning every insurance company west of moscow! They all insist there is no such van as
VW T4 1.9tD swb 1200. They say VW only do that model in 800 or 1000 (which is not a model but refers to the kg carrying capacity).
However
I have been in touch with VW given them the model, reg no., the chassis no., the engine no. And they have a "Dialogue Sheet" for that exact vehicle and guess what? It was released from factory as 1200!
However
Insurance companies won't recognise genuine vw dialogue sheets! Mad world!
I have to insure it as a different model.
Anyway off I go now to do the deal
-
;D ;D
i thought the swb came as a 800 normally then sometimes a 1000
-
I thought the payload was on a plate/sticker around the driver door area (on my Dispatch), which also gives the max loads for the front and rear axles.

Nope, it comes as a 1200 too!

Nope, no evidence anywhere on vehicle or documents

You should have had faith
Faith wasn't available, so I took Sue with me! ;D
We came back with a Vee Dubbaya Van!
Old van soon for sale ready to wfp ;)

I cleaned up under the bonnet today and revealed the chassis plate which states clearly the payload.
Sure enough 1200kg! I am a happy bunny for a change.
