Title: what am i doing wrong?
Post by: takinatrip on May 15, 2008, 01:20:31 pm
My tap tds is about 250ppm I go direct into 2x11ltr ressin vessels but it is only lasting at most 5000ltrs. :o

Is this right as its costing me a fortune. >:(

Another question when filling the vessels how much ressin should I be putting in? I usually put 11ltrs in a bucket and mix with water so I can pour it in.

Any help appreciated.

With a tds that high you shouldn't just be using resin you'll need an Ro system cant answer the other 2 questions I've only filled mine once and got it wrong I think! didn't use any water though and probably over filled mine.

That's good going on the amount of water you get from the amount of resin with a 250 tds reading.  If you want more water cheaply then you would have to use an RO system.

Get yourself a funnel for pouring the resin in the vessel, as it must be a bit messy the way you are doing it.  Fill it up just past the neck of the vessel.

you need a R/O system,my water is around 300 befor and 7 after then go through your di to get the last 7 ppm out.
This will save you a lot in ressin.

hope this helps cheers joe

Thankyou for your quick replies.

We have recently moved from an area where the tap tds was low and on rates not a meter!

I have a 300gpd RO but it is slow compared to what it used to be at our last place. Used to fill up 700 ltrs over night. Here Im lucky if I get 200ltrs in the same time.

The DI is quick and easy but expensive and the RO is cheap but slow. Dont know which way to turn. Might set up the RO then top up with DI.

get a booster pump for the ro. My 300god RO takes 8 hours to fill 250 litres and 4 1/2 to do the same with a booster pump.

Depends on your water pressure, you don't always need a booster my 4040 ro fills at 100 liters an hour approx!

with a 4040 I was getting 650l in about 4.5/5 hours with a booster it is a lot lot more, I cant say how much more till the weekend because my system needs re install and had to buy some parts. I will repost the details when done.

resin only IMO is like chucking money down the drain.
