Title: Help please on Blackcurrent stain.
Post by: Mike Osbourne on May 14, 2008, 12:05:58 pm
I have good client with what we think is a blackcurrent stain that's been down 2 weeks and someones had a go at it with god knows what.

Now I know it's a bit of a lost cause and told them but this Client is worth the effort. The carpet is in a largish venue, is wool  and cost £60k a year ago.

This morning I....

acid rinse-slight improvement

m/s, agitate rinse, no joy

Ashby's oriental rug spotter/ leather cleaner. some improvement

Discussed with Client and tried Craftex tea/coffe some improvement + steam (from the smell I think it's mainly bisulphite

It still sticks out like a dogs dangles so was thinking of trying  peroxide next as a reagent hasn't worked. I do have some Dith but a bit reluctant to risk it.

What should I try next or should I quit now? Obviously I will get waivers on any new treatments.

Hi Mike
Have you tried dabbing it with methylated spirits then quick rinse out afterwards.

No, that's not something I've tried before, have you had success with it? The rug spotter I use does contain mild solvents though. I think I'm well past the removal stage now.

Hi Mike

I'm carrying all the base solvents now because they often work better than the  watered down CC products, just have your hand tool at the ready to extract

It would be a good one if Mike could publish something on this.
I for one would buy it. He helped me out before. Sudo cream stain, white spirit took it out no probs.

Hi Rabby

I assume you mean me.

I think it would be difficult to publish something without going into lots of background.

Do you think it would be better to do a stain removal day with lots of notes to accompany the discussion so that an understanding was built up?

Cheers

Doug

Yes Doug I meant you. My painkillers are making me doolalley,  ::)  sorry about that.
Yes a one day course sound good.
But always a hassle and a big expense for us guys up north to travel to these things.

That why I was thinking about a well written manual. With the power of the internet
you could make yourself a good few quid.

Cheers

Hi Rabby

One of the reasons I left the lab was the interminable report writing  ::)

I take your point about travelling but it's so much quicker  to speak than write.

Cheers

Just to say thanks for the ideas guys.

Special thanks to Mossey, went to see the Client today about more work and we couldn't find the stain at first. They are well chuffed, but there is still a bit of a pink hue when you look closely.

Hi Mike

If you still wanted another go I think lastly I would try red stain remover and steam/towel, then finally peroxide and dry. Could do it.

Kev

That's what I ended up doing. Took ages but did start to lift into towel. Don't want to do any more, Client's more than happy with result and I think the pile will suffer if I do any more.
