Geoff,
Probably a type of glycerine gunge which should come off easily with hot water.
Colour could be a problem but isn't normally with this type of product.
Put some m/s or detergent in a spray bottle , fill with customers hot water , spray on , leave 5 mins and wipe with a white towell.
Should make you look like a hero! and you can then book the job.
Cheers,
Doug

Thanks doug, have been to survey , got the job
have made no promises about the gunge!!! customer happy with that.
the gunge apparently was some sort of jelly called alien squirm , comes in an egg shaped container with a toy worm or alien or similar,
what did suprise me was the mess it has made of carpet , has left a circle of approx 6inches diam. and the residule is similar to that of candle wax
looks to me like it has damadged the pile!!
is a low profile wool mix
ill try your suggestion first

Our 4 year old son got some gungey stuff in an egg ifrom a party bag before Christmas. He dropped it and some fluff stuck to it. He decided to wash it under the tap! The result was a very sticky mess that stuck to not only his skin but also to the basin. Water made it spread further and more and more sticky. I ended up scraping it off of both basin and child then had to give him a good scrub in the bath. The residue floated like bright green scum.
Not sure what it's made of...good luck!

been there done that.........got the t-shirt!
the only think I've found that worked was tecman solvent cleaner/chewing gum remover, first I punctured the spots with a prochem chewing gum spike then left for a few mins to soften then rinsed with the wand......found that the hotter the rinse water the better!
hope this is of help

Geoff,
In light of Nicky's reply I suggest that you try Eco Spotter on a section of the patch first and remove (hopefully) softened stuff with a bone scraper.
If it is going to turn into a sticky mass with hot water, the more you can remove first, the better.
