got a 40inch ro (pure freedom). The tds reading seems to be creeping up after around 4 weeks is this normal. I change the filters every 12 weeks im only using around 250 litres a day.
So wait for tds to reach around 005 then change resin. Seems alot of resin to go through? ???

Have you been given instructions on how to flush the membrane? If so, you ideally need to flush the membrane for about 5 minutes before each tank fill. This will prolong the life of your membrane and make it more efficient.

You are best calling Andrew at purefreedom,
I personally added another resin vessal to save on resin, because chucking resin that low is a waste IMO, I will ditchin mine at 001

yes alex i flush through for 20 minutes at least 2 or 3 times a week and always for 5 mins on each fill. Originally tds was staying down for over 6 weeks but noticed a jump to 002 this time after only 4 weeks? does seem a waste of resin and it aint cheap either.

are you testing the tds out of ro ?
if not do it and see what it is, you could well be shutting off after the flush and not giving enough waste.
add another resin vessal you will use alot less resin than you are now

What ratio is the product/waste set at? Sometimes increasing this slightly can improve the performance of the membrane.
As Ian has said twin DI canisters will greatly increase the life of the resin and save you money.
-
ok ian will have a look 2mor now cheers for the advice. ;D
-
ok alex i will also send more to waste cheers and see if it stays at 000 longer.
-
Sending more to waste will lengthen the life of the RO membrane. Adding a second DI will better use the resin and save money spent on unnecessary resin.

tds reading straight out the ro is around 210 does that sound about right ian?

No way, that way ott, flush your system for about 20mins then check it again.
it should be less than 30

flushed for 20mins got a reading of 118tds. After passing through resin gets down to 002. And that resin is 4weeks old! I have flushed the system on a regular basis any ideas. Dont really wanna be using new resin every month is that normal?

118 is not good enough,
flush it for 30 mins and see it it changes, if not go back to supplier and ask why this is happening either you have a dodgy membrane, or your tds is sky high and need a softener....or you tap pressure is so low it takes an age to get through and the watse will be a nightmare.
I have gone through this myself.
118 out is totally wrong
30 max and thats from normal tap.
try flushing longer even an hour and a little more each day 5 mins is not enough in a very hard water area I know this as my tds is over 470.
if it does not drop there is a problem with the membrane
-
ok mate will give it a real flush through over weekend and see if that makes it drop. If not ill be ringing pure freedom monday because will be spending money on wasted resin :P
-
oh and by the way is a real hard water area in northants the tds is up in the 400's as well so prob not helping

pure freedom could well be shut on monday mate as its a bank holiday .

sounds like
a) you may need a water softener
b) your membrane is fitted the wrong way around - there is a rubber seal on the inlet side of the membrane, make sure it is on the inlet.
c) faulty or damaged membrane.
Assuming inlet tds of 450ppm, typical rejection should be around 95/98%, therefore outlet tds should be around 22ppm however in practice the higher the inlet tds the higher the rejection %, I would reckon anywhere from 010ppm to 020ppm would be about right.

all this talk is blowing my brains, i hate being a newbie as havent got a clue what your talking about but feel i need to as got a purefreedom system myself about 3 weeks ago but only ever put water in it twice.

I was getting down to 24 min normally 28/30 in very hard water area.

alright ian i flushed out for an hour today and checked tds direct from ro its reading 118 seems really high. I am in a really hard water area northants. how long should the resin last before having to change it anyway. Im using around 250 litres a day. Im not sure what ratio system is set at theres just a dial which you turn to open up or send more to waste im sure im sending plenty to waste. Any ideas alex or ian? If i need a water softener how does that work? I will be ringing pure freedom tues ive had system for nearly 6 months whats the live span of a 40 ro?
-
all these questions sorry lads er im checking tds before the water goes to the resin vessel yes? ???
-
Hi tatman
Yes you are doing the right thing testing the water before it's going into the resin vessel. 118 tds is ridiculously high after going through the RO - there must be something wrong. Either the membrane isn't seated properly in the housing or the membrane isn't working correctly. Either way, get back to the supplier and I'm sure they will be able to help you out.
