Title: How to make water impure?
Post by: *Mr Tumble on April 29, 2008, 05:14:53 pm
We all know that soft water is great for cleaning windows, but I want some hard water for other cleaning purposes because I live in a soft water area.

How can I make the TDS of tap water higher?

Soft water makes getting rid of soap and shampoo difficult - I need hard water.

Thanks but I don't to wreck my w/c water production, just increase the tds at the tap.

What can be added?  Maybe a tablet of calcium?  A few spoons of bicarbonate of soda?  Lime?

 ???

maybe the waste out of the ro?

My low-ish tds to begin with didn't really justify an RO, but I did get one, not that it works very hard.  I should check the tds of the waste, and that might be the answer.

Be nice to chuck a tablet in a bucket though, make it easier.

Haven't you noticed when you use soft water to wash your hands that the soap takes forever to come off?  I end up using a towell not just to dry my hands but to get the soap off.  I think REALLY hard water is great for getting rid of soap.

I just tested my waste RO water and its 335.  I just poured some on a window to see if it leaves some smears/marks.

I used some pure water in my bucket, and it seems to behave differently, the fluid dynamics look different. Any confirmation on this?

it does because there is no crap in it to give slide, use gg4/3 gives a little better slide takes a little getting used to IMO

If soft water (low TDS) is so bad for removing soap from things, how come it is so good at removing soap from windows?

To rais the TDS of water, you just add desolvables.  anything from salt / sugar to bicarb, soap, dirt, basically anything that will dissolve.

Soap from glass is one thing, soap from hair/hands is another.

Got mine up to 550 odd this morning which I'm pleased about.

Not sure what to do with it thou.

I added some bicarb of soda to it.
