Title: Pointy ladders & ladder stoppers

where is the cheapest place to get a wooden pointy ? And are these ladder stoppers any good on

A) gravel  B) leaning a ladder back over a slight roof for dormers etc- what angle will they safely lean back to ?

If no good for this can anyone recommend anything else? ???
