In my main job we have to have a crb and i find this a good selling point when door knocking as i believe we should all be checked as i know a few window cleaners who i wouldnt trust in my garden with kids bikes etc out there.

i like the idea of license
loads of dole boys round here ::)
all my work is in Lincolnshire at moment but only just
Norfolk and Cambs are only minutes away and on edge of my current patch
a national license makes more sense
maybe like rod license or shotgun cert.

It is the best selling tool around.

It will soon be the best tool to safeguard our industry.  ;)

Can see a lot of peoples veiwpoints about a National licence but is a big task to overcome, how I manage my licence, insurance etc.. for each area I work in I factor it in my pricing.

Works every time when I hear my last window cleaner charged peanuts, out pops the licence and speel and they then agree the price. My best selling point is " Do you leave your top windows open in the summer, well I am Police checked etc.. so you have piece of mind". Works all the time ;)

A lot of the guys don't use it as a selling tool but need to as it is the best tool we have.

Its a massive selling tool, youve said it spot on about leaving windows open as ive had people around my area come to me because im police checked and theyve said they can now leave there windows open, and i got my crb through my job where i look after adultd with learning difficulties.

why is a national license a big task
shotgun certs. and firearms certs. are national
they involve crb checks and annual visits to check secure storage etc
if the demand was there then logistics not that hard
are they ??? ???

I don't have an ID card anyway all my customers know me and i don't canvass or leaflet so no need for one.

Window cleaners are covered by the Civic Government Scotland Act.

The law that covers Councils the right to licence trades in their area governs all trades like Taxi Drivers, Street Traders etc...

To have a National licence the Parliament would have to pass a seperate law for window cleaners, the biggest obstacle would be all the other trades would want a National licence. That is our obstacle.

Oh please not this again

WE DONT WANT LICENSES IN ENGLAND.

So please sto trying to convince us that we do.  We're very sorry that you have them up there, but please stop trying to spread your misery south of the border.

Tennat you've put your foot in it again, this topic was about id cards and couple of questions about licensing in Scotland. No one has yet said bring it to England.

However who wants licensing to stamp out Tennat ;D ;D

Only joking ;)

tennet
why not ???
i see it as a way of thinning out the doleboys
not to mention the burglars
(a very effective method down here, tight customers take on cheaper than cheap window cleaner and come home to an empty house  ;D)
i dont really get it but i seem to recall you dont like idea
what are the cons for it
apart from this council thing, which does seem to be a major pain :(

What a pointless load of rubbish, anyone could make a fake ID to carry around and no one would know the difference!! It would just be another way for the authorities to make money out of us!!! >:(

I beleve we should have them, i just picked up 11 houses in my area because they hadnt had a window cleaner for 6 months as there last one is going to court for burglary to there houses, lucky for me my Mum knows one of them so she now has trust back and has assured her neighbours that im a good person.
