One word YES
-
HAS ANYONE DONE THIS AND HOW DO YOU GO ABOUT IT - SICK OF DOLE BUMS STEALING WORK FROM HONEST PEOPLE

There is an Inland Revenue hotline which you can call without giving your details if you want.
Can remember the number but I'm sure it would be easy to find if you wanted to.
-
Here's the number: 0800 854 440 7am-11pm

I have't had much bother with these people in recent years, but when I did I used to have a camera in the van. I'd take (or even pretend to take) photos of them cleaning, and try to get their vehicle in the shot.
I didn't even have to say anything, the obvious impression was that the photos would soon find their way to the dole office.
That soon got rid ;D

DO YOU THINK ITS REASONABLE TO A MASS 200 HOUSE BEFORE BECOMING LEGAL ??
-
Charlton. please take off cap lock as it is like you are shouting at us ;D ;D
No not reasonable, if you are working legally then do it from day one.

If they're on benefits they should be declaring any money they earn whether it's from cleaning 20 houses or 200.
-
sorry for caps lock ::) i think we all need to be reporting these people more often - the polish crews have started in my area i explain to custies that i have insurance for any damage and i also i dont drink on the job like they do...
-
This is something the SLWCN has finally got through to the Councils we are currently working with. Any unlicensed window caught their details as well as to the PF are passed to the inland revenue. From this they are compiling a report how bad the situation is.
Any new window cleaners that apply for a licence their details are passed onto the inland revenue. Hopefully this will make it harder for illegal window cleaners and if they want to do window cleaing full time they will start have to put up their prices in order to make a good living.
This will go a long way to helping the trade here in Scotland.
With regards to England and Wales the only way to stop this is report them to authorities if you have strong evidence they are claiming benefits.

what about those illegal ones that go round using ladders should we grass thenm up to the h&s police wfp rules marc

grass them up, why should they claim benefits - paid for by us! makes me mad, the inland revenue give a 3 month grace for all new businesses, anyone with 2 clues will know if they are sticking to it within 3 months.
personally I'd like to shoot them but I know I can't. :(

Do mean nick 200 of the local lads and then think i`ll go legit now,i think that`s wrong.

What if they kick the stuffing out of you when you go to 'sort them yourself'. Like my 5'5" dad used to say, 'no matter how big (tough) you are there is always someone bigger (tougher)'.

we are trying to be pro's we cant afford to battle it out we have to much to lose - so think before you post.........
-
How do you know they are 'Illegal'?
-
if your just starting out, then my advice would be to go and inform the inland revenue and they will advise you on whats best for your situation, ;)
do it legal from the start,

live and let live. there is enough to go round, if people want low life and dead beats cleaning thier homes for a £5 look else where for customers that are willing to pay for a pro service , just concentrate on being the best, at the end of the day these people make the honest Cleaners people look good
-
think yersel lucky in england you don't need a licence to buy also. i had to buy 2 licences before i even started and this has cost me over 150 quid

live and let live - these people are taking potentional jobs away from us - so i think the best plan of action is to report them to the dole and inland revenue
-
carol
catch a grip and pull your neck in and go and get some other customers that want a service and not cheap job
-
if they cant get some dole head to do it for £5 then they would have to pay a proper price - so u get a grip and wind your neck in pal :P
-
its ok to say not to grass people up .but when these people brag how much benifit .n perks. i e .jobs on the side .down the pub to friends .i say shop em . window cleaner i know brags to friends how much pension .shop windows in town .he has .just had is house taken off him 6 months ago not paying backtax .made bankrupt .but still cleaning windows n not paying tax .n just had council flat .
-
if they take you on after being snitch....they will only drop you when some one cheaper comes along..and if you cant sell your self better than these people you must be a rip of merchant..
-
i dont agree with it . it just seems a bit low may be its just me...
-
i dont see it as snitching just these people give window cleaning a bad image and through this forum i have read lots of excellent and quality comments from people who wish to improve the jobs image thats all - its taking food from our table as they say...
-
I don't agree with it either, but let me know how much tax we'll get refunded for grassing them up and I might think about..... in fact don't bother I'll tell you how much well get back......nothing >:(
-
we might have nothing off taxman ,have we ever ..but i can see what my fellow window cleaners ar saying ..we can stop these buggers on the dole bragging for 6 mins .we know they ar doing it but when thy rub ur face in it .they ar taking the p..
-
tacky
would you not want to have 200 and your dole money like before you went self employed.......... as you stated in a previous post
-
How do you know they are 'Illegal'?
That exactly what i was thinking.
Just because some people use a car and ladder does not make them illegal so how do you know who is or is not legal ???
I have better things to do anyway.
Some people must be really worried about others setting up in there area if they are thinking of grassing them up.
Forget them and get on and clean windows
-
I have tax dodgers in some areas of my work. It does stop me getting good opportunistically priced work at times. It is frustrating. If you have to blame anyone, blame their customers who encourage the tax dodgers. They will never change.
The worthwhile customers would rather trust legitimate w/c's anyway. I won't even try matching an illegitimate w/c for price as it's just not worth the work at the prices they charge anyway.
-
if it makes you feel good to grass someone up , all i can say is good luck you may need it .
-
Those people who have replied negatively to this thread -
If they aren't doing it illegaly then why should it matter that someone is telling the revenue - they'll be fine.
If they haven't registered then it is ILLEGAL. Its your choice whether you tell or not, but all those who have said they definately wouldn't... where do you draw the line? Would you ''snitch'' if you saw someone being raped or is that underhand too ::)
Most people wouldn't take the trouble, but the reason people who are on benefits can underprice is BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT PAYING TAX. We have to earn 22% more (or whatever) because we are paying our tax. So it is completly understandable that people DO shop people they think may be evading.
I don't think I'd bother personally unless they really peed me off but people shouldn't bmock others for doing what is after all ''the right thing to do''
-
guys i operate in west fife scotland and the amount of window cleaners round my area who don't have licence is massive .I dont know whether they pay tax or national insurance i doubt it very much .
I am total legit i have went to the expense of buying /insuring a van , licensing for ther areas i operate in, and buying pubic liability insurance . i dont make a lot just now as i'm starting out (that doesent bother me as i have another business ) but these guys must only make a pittence (beer money ) They just bring the whole window cleaning business down !!
-
craig b .thanks for reminding me of previous post .but i was joking . in my previous post . but point taken . i vill not joke any more ;D
-
Its just wrong..working and not paying your dues...now none of us like it but our taxes pay for so many things that we all take for granted....
So those who cheat and steal from the system cheat and steal from you personally each and every time they clean a window....
Shop someone for stealing from me...oh yes in a heartbeat...will I feel bad..no.
Paying your taxes is just the right thing to do.
Now what the goverment do with the tax money is another thing... ;)
Dave.
-
Personally I have nothing against the tax man or what he does with his money but I really hate giving away money that I don;t have to.
Every year I try to minimise my tax bill by means fair and occasionally foul just to make sure that the tax man is on his toes ;)
It has been asked allready, how do you know they are illigal?????Maybe you just have too much time on your hands. Get some more work and you wont have time to be doing the victor meldrew on it.
-
before i start, I PAY MY TAXES.... if you dont you wont get anywhere in life...
but why would you want to grass him up, what would you achieve and as somebody has said either get some more work and occupy yourself more or have it out with him and give him a chance to mend his ways, ( the guy could have a family)....... dont be an A**E HOLE
