Just got back from a weekend there - blimey what a tired and shabby looking place that is! There must be loads of work there. The park we were on had a green conservatory, Alum bay - the conservatory/extension was green, Sandown - yuk! Newport yuk! Cowes - can't believe what a dive that is, everywhere was grubby, very dissapointed. :-[

There is very high unemployment at the isle of wight, so not much money around, I love the place, as I have fond memories of Aug bank holiday scooter rallies 8)

I thought the isle of wight was where all the posh nobs lived and their was a waiting list and a set of high standards and had to have wads of cash to even live there or am i mixing it up with another island???

By work i meant cleaning. I've cycled over the middle before and always thought it clean and tidy. I thought it would be on a par with Sandbanks but it's way off that.

I used to live in newport glad i moved away thats where i had my first window cleaning round.
Still have to go back every few years as my mother lives there but if she didn't i wouldn't bother going there.

Sandbanks ;D I live around the corner, and clean window on houses there, its where some of the rich & famous live

I used to live there.
it is a nice place to visit, but if you have dreams It seems IMO not to be the place to get them.
if I was 65 then I would love the place.
whoever said it was dirty must of had blinkers on, most places on the UK mainland dont come close to the sea area and layed back way on the IOW and are dirty, you weill fine the streets clean, maybe not every house have a window cleaner, but being dirty I think not, oldie worldie yes for sure.
Go there make your own mind up is what I would say.

What are you talking about cheapest is not always best? It's simply the handiest crossing for me no complaints with the crossing. The Island is beautiful, the towns are grubby and tired, the whole place needs a cash injection and yes it's full of old people about to die.

to some people that is why they like it, grubby I would say no, dated yes that is its charm, there is plenty of cash on the IOW trust me. Old people like a layed back lifestyle and that is what it offers, I live in a built up area nice area still nothing like there, I guess you dont like old things thats all

I don't think the isle of wight is grubby.
Its nice in the summer to visit when everything is open.
Got some lovely countryside.
I lived there until i passed my driving test and wanted to move away as i had seen everything there and it used to get boring and there was high unemployment down there.
But we still enjoy going back there to visit.
And its full of prisoners ;D

I've been there. Didn't notice it was especially grubby but did see lots of beautiful and interesting places.
Went to Blackpool last year for the FWC conference. Now THAT'S grubby, and worse. In daylight it's downright filthy, the beach, the buildings on the seafront, all covered in litter and paint that might have been new about 20 years ago. The streets behind the front are even worse - all turned into bed-sits for the idle doleys. We were walking from the van to the sea front when a half eaten Pot Noodle came flying out of a top floor window and nearly hit my wife.
At night it looks brilliant, but only because of the lights - they are so bright you can't see behind them at the state of the place.
