Hi guys
some of you may know im having trouble with my current RO with high TDS readings coming out of the RO at 37! so in normal use its 24 and eating my resin like sweets a 11lit vessel, also i only get about 25-28 lit per hour with it ::) and can only run it in the daytime because of the booster pump its not very loud but just dont want to upset my next door nabour..
i was thinking of just spending money on a 4040 system stop all this messing and make the water in the day time? even if i only get from 9am - 6pm 600 or 700 litres it would be better than the 240 odd litres am getting no at most!!! am relly fed up with the purefreedom RO about 2 chuck it in the bin.
the system i have been looking at is..
www.gapswater.co.uk/acatalog/copy_of_Reverse_osmosis_kits.html
the first one selling at £534.63 Including VAT
or one below selling at £487.63 Including VAT
what do you guys think about these kits? anyone bought one from here?

Hi Dave
Yes they are very good kits (although I always recommend paying an extra £30 or so for the stainless steel membrane housing).
As long as your water pressure is above 40psi you should be fine.
The first kit is the same except it has all necessary fittings with it.
-
Dave,.. if you're chucking the old one,.. I'm looking for an extra 100gpd membrane/housing or 2,.. put em up on ebay and recoup some of your costs when you've the new setup running!
-
Thanks Alan,
actully my water pressure is only 40PSI but i have the RO booster pump which boostes it up to 84 - 85psi, i no the pump is not ideal but might be worth it to start off with.
i have heard other people using this booster pump with a 4040 system filling 400 lit tank in 4 to 5 hours. il try dig the post out it was a post about setting the pump up.
Thanks Nathanel
if i go ahead and get new setup i will do that.
-
Here is the post, Easy is using RO Man booster pump with a 4040 system, so i might do this with mine to start with then if needed at a later date upgrade to one of the big booster pumps.

hi dave have you spoken to purefreedom about the problem, if so what was the reply
-
yes i did speak to someone the other day called Andrew it wasnt andrew mcann tho someone else.
they said 24 out of the RO is about normal ::) but the rising of the tds isnt and if ur getting 28 29 lit an hour wiv booster pump is also about right.
he said it could just be a cold spot and to moniter it over the next few days.
But to be honest i carnt stand the 28/29 lit per hour from it as i carnt run it over night time. anyway aparently people have said on here that they have heard lots of problems with those RO's
-
Does anyone else have any view's on this system?
-
Thanks Foxman,
Will look at those companies or ring ;)
-
24 out of the RO is about normal
Must be a crap R/O i have the RO man 300 gpd and comes out at 006 before d/i
-
It shows that Pure Freedom sell crap RO's! Dont be fooled by price when it comes to water treatment.
-
Looks like it its been crap from the start tbh without booster pump it was making 12lit per hour :(
theres also another post around from tompoole who also using same RO with very high TDS.
Yes your right foxman jut wish i bought something diffrent in the start but .. lesson learnt i spose :P
-
hi dave
let me know which you go for. might have to follow if you get a result
cheers
tom

Just go for a 4040 if you can afford it.
My recommendation is
4040 Stainless steel housing
Osmonics AK 4040TF membrane
2 x Pentek 3G prefilter housings (either 10 or 20 inch)
Use only good quality prefilters, osmonics Purtrex sediment filters get my vote.
EP carbon filters - Pentek again
As foxman says don't scrimp on equipment, its your livelihood here chaps.
A full setup as I have described should cost you about £550 including 2 spare carbon and 4 spare prefilters.
If you can't afford to go for something like this then a merlin is 2nd choice.
-
Thanks Alan,
I think what you have discribed is more or less the first kit on the gaps water page, just without the stainless steel housing so mite try and ring see if they can change that.
dave

Yes June will change the plastic housing for the stainless steel, it'll cost a bit more (about £30) but it is sooooo worth it.
Whats your tap pressure like? If its below 50psi I'd recommend a booster pump ( I know its more money again!)
Also don't go for the cheaper membrane, that little bit extra is again worth paying.
Its a reasonably expensive piece of kit but you are getting top of the shop components for that money.
-
Thanks Alan,
yer for an extra 30-40 is worth the extra, the top kit comes with the membrane you mentioned above (Osmonics AK 4040TF membrane)
my tap pressure is 40PSI i was going to boost it with the small RO man pump i know its not great but someone else on here uses that pump with a 4040 so i think it would work... so was going to try it not as a permanent pump but just for know then upgrade to a bigger one.

Thanks for the help Alan,
Orderd a kit from gaps water the top package with stainless steel June said it was extra 25.00 so pleased with that..
Thanks for your help :D, just one question is it best to but a booster pump before or after prefilters? before RO membrane
