I've really tried to steer clear of doing them but have had 2 requests this week already so I guess I'll start
Now I'm not going to do it off a ladder so will have to invest in a lightweight wfp of perhaps a pressure washer what's easiest/ most popular way?

Ladder and a stand off .......... £100 an hour , oh and plenty of microfibre clothes ;D

I use pole and connect to a normal garden hose.
All my customers let me use there outside tap.
I have a brush which is a little harder than I use on the windows side.
All works a dream as you can turn the pressure up when and if needed.

Good money in it Chris and you know your going to get alsorts of answers.
My own method is with the pressure washer and lance, I fill the detergent bottle up and stick the pressure washer on low pressure, give the guttering,soffits etc a good soak and then turn the washer upto full power and blast it off, if there are any stubborn bits I stick my brush into a bucket of say TFR and just give the area a good brushing.
Jobs normaly done in half the time than off the ladder.

Thats hard work Jonah and I'd get vertigo going up a ladder again ;D definitely keeping my feet on the ground or I won't bother, I may even decide to pass the work on as long as I get the windows.

Get a good pair of triples and you are feel safe as houses .

Using a pressure washer for this is usually more hassle than its worth in my opinion.
Wfp is hard work.
For best results you really need to get up there on a ladder.
I personally use a wfp connected to the customers tap (you dont need pure water).
You can get a result plenty good enough for what you can see from the ground level.

Good ladder with ladder legs and a good stand off and plenty of clothes I love doing them they are a great earner and you can do 2 - 3 houses in a day.

you are so asking for a claim for soaking a ceiling, I fitted some fasias in my one house you would be shocked if you saw what I did, wfp have very little pressure, a PW has alot and very quick the water will go where it is not meant to, you have at the mo been very lucky.
My advice dont use a pressure washer, wfp or ladders and clean by hand wfp being the safer option

How do you soak a ceiling? I've often wondered where any water goes if it's squirted up the vents but imagined it would just drain back out again - would it travel back into the building?

the vents are in the left, what is under the loft floor? A is the ceiling.
water going in a vent if minamal is not a problem a pressure washer is a different kettle of fish it will not leaking it there it is sprayer, water is lasy it finds the quickest way every time and that normally is down, hence going to celing as that is below.
Just a warning, you dont have to talk this advice, I just hope I dont have to say to anyone on here I dont you so.

Just had a look at mine, the loft floor/bedroom ceiling is about a foot higher than the soffits and tucked in behind the timbers. Don't know if all houses are the same, but it would be very difficult to soak my ceilings even if done deliberately.

The overhang of the roof is normally enough to stop the water going up into the roof space, providing you follow a few simple rules.
If you stand face onto guttering then yes you are asking for trouble, if you spray directly into a vent then again your asking for trouble.
You don't spray your wfp into window vents? So why do it with soffit vents with a pressure washer? It doesn't take a brain surgeon to work this out.
Simple solutions
1. Stand looking down the run of guttering and continue to wash from this angle
2. Do Not spray directly into vents and wash around vents with your brush.
Since I had my lance, I have done in access of 100 gutter/soffit cleans, and never had a problem.
Simple!

frow where I am sat in my office the soffits are just belwo celing height, fasias are above it as are the vents.
just be careful if using a pressure washer thats all I am saying ;) they are not made to withstand water coming at them this rain rain yes, pressure no..
I used to trad clean them, I know use wfp just turn flow right down

I use a ladder and a laddermax stand off (it's a stand off with a built in tray) or wfp really depends on how dirty they are.

I have a contract we our local concil doing wash downs on facias and sofitts. last year we cleaned over 350 propertys with a PW and had no complaits .aveage a 10 to 12 propertys a day. When talking to lads that do the roof repair there is no evidance of any water damage in roof or celing

I use pressure washer with long lance to clean sofits and fascias, never had problem with water going in.
I will be buying a wfp very shorty (purefreedom looks best in my eyes) then i will see what is best to use pw or wfp for plastic cleaning..

Pressure washer much quicker than WFP for guttering work. Cladding can be just as quick with WFP if using TFR or hot providing waterflow is very high.

Thanks for replies, the job I quoted today will I think be possible with wfp without to much hassle so if he accepts that's the way I will go on this one, I'm sure some would be more suited to a pressure washer though so that's something else to invest in I think.
Only trouble is the house I quoted for was large detached and I quoted £30 for the windows and he thought that was for the rest as well, his jaw dropped when I told him £100 for the rest.
