If its one of the blue di vessel type housings then its simply an inline housing.
depends on what type of ro you are using as to how you should set it up.
if its a 4040 then you want to be feeding the salt in after the prefilters with the ro left on flush mode.
post a few pics of what you have and I'll tell you what to do then.
salt flushing isn't important unless you live in a very hard water area, especially if the hardness in your water is calcium carbonate (lime - CaCO3)

I thought the softener went before the prefilters :-\ straight after main tap..
I am dying to try this but I am not messing up my 4040 till I know how

Hi Ian,
I dont think you have a water softener there. I t sounds like a resin vessel, some demin resin and a filter housing. If so , you dont need the filter housing as the resin allows particulates thro and is uneffected by dirt.
The vessel will have an in and out stamped on the top. Allow tap water in the in and the resultant water should be demin ready to use on the glass.
Sean`s Tip ; dont fill the resin vessel above the shoulder, with the resin beads, it wont work correctly.
Call me on 08707 282840 if you need further help.
