Title: Back pack or nor back pack, that is the question!
Post by: jewelcleaning on April 13, 2008, 09:45:08 pm
Just bought a back pack on last week, came friday, but the battery is dodgy I think.  (It was a returned item, but i was told it was fully working! did get a good price, i thought!)
Annoying, as I was hoping to start work with the WFP tomo for the first time!!   >:( >:( >:(

Now having secong thoughts about backpack altogether, and wondering if I should just get a tank fitted in van with shurflo pump and controller?? ???

I wouldnt have bought a reconditioned personally.

I suppose it all depends how much you paid for it.

Well that was it, it wasn't recon, just someone didn't get on with it.  I paid £127+vat (£150)  which i later realised wasn't that great a discount, esp as its not working!!  You can get a new one for £140+vat here:http://www.williamson-shop.co.uk/shurflo-srs-600ce-backpack-sprayer-47-p.asp

Or one with a 20' pole included for £231 here http://www.wintecs.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=970&osCsid=8b4f8d17086b934f68dc7b03abf31dfb

Thinking i might just get them to send me a new one, so at least I know it hasn't been abused at all.

I only agreed to have this one as they were out of stock on the new ones... very annoying! :(

Possibly a days work lost now..... >:(

It`s not man enough for that, don`t forget if your using 60-100mtrs of minibore it has a long way to travel before you get water on the window. The pump is only 40psi and is supposed to be pumping water about 2 mtrs in it`s original state, buy a vari+shurflo combo for about £150 a tank and hosereel it will save headaches galore.

it is man enough, i have used my backpack though 100 metres, my last job i did there was no water supply on top of this roof, so i put the backpack at the bottom of the ladder and reeled the hose up and the ladder and out on to the roof, and the pump was only on setting 1...so dont you tell me that it isnt man enough  :P

LWC

Do you think it is the battery that's duff; the thing runs for about 10sec and then cuts out, and the light blinks, this is despite a long 20Hr charge.

I was wondering if its maybe the control board?

I started with a backpack last September and it halved the time my round took almost. Now I have a van mounted system and a backpack for the odd bits and pieces and I must say that I still couldn't do without a backpack.

I can clean windows in court yards and places that, if I was to run hose through I would get  >:( >:( >:( from everyone.

Thanks thats exactly what I wanted to hear!! I've just returned the dodgy back pack to one supplier and ordered a brand spanking new one from another.  Gonna make sure I charge it properly and then keep it well charged.

What length pole did you start with?  I've just got a 36' hybrid (HXTEL) I'm gonna use this for everything
at first, but wondering if it might be a bit cumbersome for downstairs.  (I've got a friend who's been doing it for a while like this, and gets on fine)

A back pack is a useful tool to have but dont rely on it for all your work
Use the right tool for the job get a van mount aswell

we use 17ft xtel's for most of the work we do.

36ft you will look like arnie in a few months if your arms hold out ;)

Hi mate,

When I got my backpack I was on a really tight budget so I went for a 30 foot universal pole. The trick I learned with the backpack was to put it on the floor behind you while you work and move it as you go along. If you wear it all day you get really bad pains in your shoulders after a while.

Great thanks everyone.   :)

I've ordered a sack truck to carry the thing around on as and when i need it.  I'll get a tank fitted into the van soon, but want to start making money with the WFP first and progress from there. 8)
