It’s not often I get fuelled up about something, but I am so annoyed that I am writing this review to warn others that they might need to check their bank accounts for money going out from an online site where they have ordered business cards for free.
My daughter has just qualified as a nail technician and beauty therapist and wanted to get some business cards done to bring in extra work, so she visited www.vistaprint.co.uk and ordered about 200 for free. Or so she thought, the business cards came and she only had to pay for the posted and was billed for £3.49 which she paid with using her debit card.
Today she has just called me into her room and showed me her bank account online and there has been a payment of £9.95 been taken out of her account every month by vprewards.com.
Apparently when you order your free business cards you are agreeing to be signed up to vprewards which is free for the first 30 days then a monthly amount of £9.95 will be taken from your bank account.
I don’t know what you get for your £9.95 a month and I can probably say that most people don’t even realise that this is in the small print or terms and conditions as many people and teenagers don’t read the small print. Thinking that the business cards are free and don’t give it another thought.
My daughter tried to log onto the site to cancel the bank debits but didn’t have a password as she wasn’t sent a sign up email they just joined her and took the money out of her bank and she was wondering why she was getting into overdrawn and being charged bank charges as she thought she had enough money in her account.
Although this isn‘t illegal for the site to do this, as it is in the terms and conditions, she wasn’t sent any emails to let her know she had been signed up or that her 30 day trial was running out.
I think it should make anyone buying the business cards aware by email or letter that they have agreed to sign up to vprewards.com with a subscription of £9.95 per month after 30 days trial, and that you don‘t get anything for your £9.95.
If like my daughter you have ordered business cards from www.vistaprint.co.uk for just the price of the postage or so you think, then please check you account details and bank statements as you may be getting charged the £9.95 a month without realising.
I am disgusted with this site and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

cant she just ring the bank up and cancel the d-d
-
Sorry that happened.
There is something at the end of the transaction, offering this sort of thing. I always choose no as it says 'Free Trial'
Anything Online that says 'Free Trial' is nearly always a pay something later.
As with any purchasing Online, be ultra vigilant; its really easy to just click yes to get rid of the screen or whatever.

arent a lot of people on this rorum with vista print as i always see people recomending them, this will be interesting to see.

I've heard something like this before about Vistaprint - though I've not had any problems with them myself. I know that when ordering stuff from them, there are a number of screens to go through trying to entice you into other purchases and it can be a pain to navigate. Maybe it just takes one wrong click on one of those screens to trigger the payments.

i have bought things off vistaprint and this has never happened to me but i use vistaprint.com maybe its different. had cards, signs etc
-
you get a box at the end of your first transaction, intick it and all is ok

I know 3 times you would of thought i would learn........................i can guarentee ill do it again got a memory like a fish
-
yup... happened to me too..
Not ordered from Vistaprint since :P
-
No problems for me from vistaprint, they provide excellent products at a good price if u wait for the 40% off emails!!
-
Got a feeling there is a clock thing that ticks away to panic you into ticking a box to become a member of Vistaprint somewhere.
-
You can get back the bank charges by visiting the consumer forums group , and following the advice ;D
-
never had a problem with them mind you im always careful where i do and dont
tick boxes had nothing but great service
-
Yes i had this as well when i first used them some years ago, i googled "vistaprint scam" to get a direct number, sorted now, but it was a pig. ok since....
-
Happened to me too. Was fuming. Dont want to sound anti American but they are more aggressive and pushy in business. I wouldn't use VP again.
-

ifd you use the middle number on your card, like most do then they can take what they like when they like, the best things are not always free, I saw this happen with websitrs and domain names 10 years ago, and will see the same agin in a couple of years when the people looking for a cheap ride get caught out, I do warn people to look at the t& c's but most dont listen.
FREE IS NOT ALWAYS GOOD AND IS NOT ALWAYS FREE IN THE LONG TERM AND CAN ALSO COST ALOT MORE THAN PAYING FOR IT IN THE FIRST PLACE.
IMHO GO CHEAP GET CAUGHT OUT ::)

no offence but the vistaprints cards i have seen are not that good anyway, and the "go to www.vistaprint.com for free cards" on the back does not give the right impression
-
We used them a while ago for some cards for our holiday cottage, same thing happened to us, managed to get it sorted but it was a hassle.
wouldn't use them again for that reason and the fact that the cards weren't that good a quality either.
-
Happy with mine, i will use them again but just be careful.

For my second batch, I paid for the cards and that bit gets removed when you do that. I wanted a glossy finish too. Although I paid, I remember thinking it was still a great deal. Can't recall what I paid now though.
-
i paid alot for mine, but when ever i give them to my customers they comment on them "thats a nice card" little things like that make good first impressions
i remember when i started and people used to ask me for a card and i didnt have one and id write it down for them...hence i NEVER got the work. but when people come up now i 95% get the work. its all about being professional

Always had a good service from vistaprint, used several times and customers always impressed with the business cards.
You do have to be careful when going through the checkout, there are a lot of pages with offers on, tick or untick the boxes as appropriate. After checkout there is a free trial, don't click on it or do the survey - this is where you need to read the small print etc or you will be signing yourself up for something you do not want! I simply close the page.
They are crafty and that's how they make their money unfortunately. I looked at getting similar cards printed locally but they wanted a lot of money. Last time I got 750 premier business cards for £9.99 postage with vistaprint through the special offer emails they send you, definately worth signing up for the emails!
-
I have used them a few times. Never had a problem, BUT I am always careful to read everything on each page. Too many people rush through their transactions and then find they have signed up to something they don't want.
-
yep its like anything thats got small print on it if you dont read it properly
you are asking for trouble
