Title: Blotting with wfp
Post by: Tristan R Clean on April 12, 2008, 09:08:31 am
Does anyone know how to solve the problem of blotting.

I have a job with a mix of wooden and alluminium frames.

They blot 3-5 inches from the top of the frame - even when washing and rinsing twice over.

Thanks - Tris

Sounds like oxidization from paint, does it cause a temporary  "oil" like effect when wet ? and dry really patchy.

It could be Jeff . The frames are painted with brown paint.

I did think of doing the windows with r&w then blading before they dry.

Paint is basically chalk or limestone or calcium which is what we try to remove from pure. As it gets older it oxidises, reverting to what it used to be.
You may get better results by just re-cleaning or rinsing the glass only on a second clean and turning the flow down so that the overspray doesnt go on the paintwork also not touching the top edge or sides too much...
The oxidization- if thats what it is will have dried on the glass now, so they will need re-cleaning as above as the spots and stains are "glued" on. I do many poorly painted windows (my own house)and georgians with this double rinse maybe 5-10 minutes apart just doing glass only. But there does come a point where whatever you do you will get poor results, hopefully the customer will understand if you use tact.
Hope this helps.

Ali or PVC frames that have had it i stay away from, they never come up well unless the ali frames have a thick rubber seal round them your wasting your time. You can rinse the frames till the cows come home it makes no difference.

we've ha this problem before - try cleaning as normal, same flow rate as normal - then re-rinse about 2 inches below frame.

solved the prob for us.

I have similar problem on a job seems to come from the seal at the top of the glass

Done the job a dozen times now still happens

I think its the mastic adhesive holding the glass in  ???
