Title: Ergolite clamps
Post by: Spursboy1972 on April 12, 2008, 08:41:49 am
I have just ordered a new set of clamps for an old ergolite. 5 clamps.

My question is mhas anyone changed these before? and, how easy is it to do?

Am I going to have to cut a section off of each to put the new clamps on?

Any help most appreciated.

Is it the clamps or the levers that have worn, new levers and nuts sorted my problem out. Also just pinch them tight in the future - it creates less wear.
If it is the clamps then from memory cutting the top 2" off will have to be done but hopefully you will get better advice from Ionics.

The clamps are glued on. If you redrill the hole you see slightly larger you can tap the clamp off with a rubber mallet because you're breaking the glue seal IF you're very lucky. Otherwise you will have to cut the clamp off and fit a new one.
When you fit a new clamp, don't go mad with the glue because then you'll be able to remove it easier when it's worn. OR you could modify the Ionics ergolite clamps with parts of Tuckers pennel clamps so they lasts a lot longer.
