Nick I have been using leaflets only for advertising, quite good for choosing where you,d like to workand how much.
I get about3-4 jobs to every 500 - 1000 depends .
I also have free listings on yell .com,yellow pages.thompsons and telephone book.
I also get work from people I meet and refferal off jobs I have done.
the more pepole that seen your ads the better,as one very helpful carpet cleaner once said to me if they don,t know your number they can,t call you.
Hope this helps

The point I want to make is.

That when Machine Suppliers sell a machine to a newcomer that they have recruited to the bussiness. They have a responsibility to make sure he suceeds.

It would be unrealistic to expect Fastrack to be included for free.

But a one day marketing course. Not discovery day is a must, plus a marketing manual plus a  sample of a reasonable leaflet press advert etc

In addition 3 months telephone help.

Obviously there is a cost, but this could be paid for buy cutting the extras in the starter packs.

This applies to all machine suppliers.

I had this but the telephone help disapaired along with the company that supplied me with the machine

I disagree that a company who sells a machine has a responsibility to help the purchaser market his business.  They only have a responsibility to the machine.  It would be a nice additional touch to give a few hours free help if required but I wouldnt expect it.

The problem is they oversell cleaning to these newcomers that they can make hundreds of pounds cleaning carpets per week if they buy their machine.  The newcomers think that by putting an ad in the newspaper or throw out a few leaflets they will be quids in.  Unfortunately, from many of the recent posts, we can see this is not the case.

Just my opinion.

I agree with Mark

When you go into business, you will have a business plan. This may be a written document or just some sketches in your mind. I can't envisage anyone starting out with the idea of "I won't have a strategy for marketing because the engineers who designed and built the equipment will tell me how to do it".  OK, some suppliers may assist with the sales and marketing, and this is a bonus and should be viewed as being additional to your own plans.

Safe and happy cleaning :)
