Title: do you use pressure hose reels or not?
Post by: drive surgeon on April 10, 2008, 06:45:27 pm
it sounds a lot easier having the high pressure hose on a reel but is it better in practice or do you guys just coil your hoses up and throw in back of van?  other thing, do you use those quick connectors or the screw type connectors for pressure hose? i find the quick connectors to be really heavy and they catch the ground when you drag them along the floor. pain in the arse.

Dont use a reel myself, coil em up and chuck in the van i also have quick change couplings on everything to save messing about.

As our hoses tend to be supplied in 10mtr or 15mtr lenghts, the joints will cause a lump on the reel whatever method of joint IE quick couplers or as I prefer the 22mm threaded ones with a quick coupler/22mm adapter on the last lenght.
If you use a long lenght say 50 mtrs or more on a reel and you get a burst the job is stopped while you get it fixed. In my case I can remove/replace the burst section and get stuck back in!

At the moment I have 5 x 10 or 15 mtr lenghts to get repaired, down to my last 5 lenghts

I have the first 20 meters on a self winding reel and the rest in 15 meter quick coupled lenths works well for small jobs its so much quicker and thats what u want on a small job

trying to wind my 100 foot hose up is a nightmare and takes ages straightening the kinks,i`m getting it chopped in half on monday and  getting quick connectors added.I wouldn`t get a hose over 50 foot unless it was on a reel,i`m learning....

I copped for a reel to hold my 100 foot hose and the difference is well worth the expense, saves you time, you pull out what you need and it looks better than twisting and trning for ten minutes to rap them up manually, saves room in van as well.
