Does anyone here offer credit card payment facilities? Mate of mine has a car valeting/car sales business and got a CC machine a couple of months ago, he said his business has defo picked up since he got it in. Says he pays only £20 a month for this facility.
Does anyone think this would be a viable option for payments for conservatory/gutter etc cleaning?

I'm just presuming here.....your mate has a fixed address for his business?
If so the CC machine will have a direct telephone link to the company that deals with payments.......so that they can verify the CC on their databases and the all info gets sent to and thro....
So in order to process a CC you will need to have a telephone line.....this obviously wont be in the van....so the only option I can think of is online payment via paypal or some other online payment service.
It's a good idea to take CC payments.....but you have to think of the costs for each transaction.

Yes, he has a fixed line in his garage but said the rep could provide a mobile terminal that you run through your mobile phone. think its called mobile point of sale. so you could take payment on site.

I would definately recommend it, saves a lot of chasing.
Also, although it may not suit everyone, it means we can take deposits... no one ever cancels if they've paid a bit already... obviously not so possible if the jobs are smaller and only a few quid each time

KINGA- We have a static one at home so clients can call after 6pm to pay over the phone.
Costs: £15.00 per month and 2% money goes in bank 4 days after.
Got system through FSB (Federation for Small Business) as you get it cheaper if you are a member
Thanks Robbie

What a stupid thing to say ???

This may well be worth looking into, looking to do plenty conservatories etc this year. Thanks for the replies. Decent feedback. ;)
That seems a very good deal Robbie.

How many companys or self employed do you know, who only take cash?
If you intend to stay small, maybe. Otherwise it would be very unprofessional (and look unprofessional) if you tried to build a business and accept only cash.
Good luck to you though, you will need it.

I never said I only accept cash. I accept cash, cheques, BACS payments and credit/debit card payments through my website.
:P
