Title: 200SQ METRES BLOCK-HOW MUCH?HOW LONG
Post by: dandandan on April 09, 2008, 04:38:23 pm
I have 200 sq metres, thats 20 metres long x 10 metres wide of block paving.Lovely patterned drive with moss in joints the only real problem,no oil nothing. The drive slopes to a nice central grid so no probs with drainage. Its my first big job and i will get more work out of this so i want to impress.I  have quoted £750 with sanding and the client has said i can do the job if it`s £500 and i can do his daughters (driveway that is) as well. How long will it take with flat  22`surface cleaner and and turbo nozzle attached to a honda GX390 washer.

750 quid sounds ok, how much were you charging?  the thing is if i had a pound for the amount of people who say to me do it cheaper for me and you can do my friends drive, i would be rich. they say that so you drop the price.  if you charged say what seems to be the average price £2.00 a sq m that would be  £400 for your 200sq m drive.  then you will need to buy a load of sand and then the labour of brushing it all in, if you charged £1.50 a sq m for sanding too which would be £300 and say £50 for sand then you have charged the right price.

Its better to be working than sat at home, moan at his benevolance and register yourself as a charity but do it and nail a sign to his gate post into the deal

Its a nice easy £500  :) day and a half (inc sand) tops with my 13hp +  tech clean fsc,

did one today (15m x 4m) good slope and good drainage, 2hrs from turning up to getting home, funny how some are fast and the next one can take almost twice as long!

Always hard without seeing it and tightness of brick will make a big difference but i would start with about 14 bags of b and q kiln dried and see how you go. You can always get more if you need.

That would be a great competition for us on here, post a pic of a drive and guess how many bags of sand it needed,

winner gets, erm.....some sand!

My price going in for that job would be £450 cleaned in just over half a day then sanded in about 2hrs
Easy peasy

3 hours to clean and rinse down - £1.50 per sq mtre - £300

Allow to dry and go back to sand when convenient for you. - £0.50 per sq mtre - £100

Total £400 - cost about £3 in fuel and £8 in sand

Total hours spent - 5 - £80/hour - pretty good.

£3 in fuel sounds  cheap, how long do you get from a full 10 litre tank?how many kilos of sand would you use do u think?

No thats the job done, including sanding. I must price about the same way Amdy does.  My machine runs for just over 3 hours on a tankfull (Just over 6 litres) but either way £3 or £6 it's peanuts compared to the total job price. I'd estimate 3 to 5 bags sand @ £3 ish a bag
