Ive just got a freedom trolley and was thinking what would happen if, being a wally like I am :P, I was say cleaning round the back of house and thought I had enough water in the container to finish it and it ran out what would happen to the pump? would it carry on and burn out? the other thing was if I fitted a control valve/tap etc on the pole and stopped the flow while the pump is pumping what would happen to the pump? ???

the pumps will run dry without probs but I wouldn't do it for long, nor would I do it just to find out what would happen.

Exactly that happened to me today. I haven't moved that fast in 20 odd years!
As a general rule, don't allow a pump to run dry. It may not burn it out today or tomorrow, but it will certainly reduce its sevice life.
I made a mod to my trolley. I drilled an 18mm hole in a can lid which the suction pipe goes through. I then put the pipe through the hole and tightened a jubilee clip around the pipe on the underside of the lid so it acts as a stop so the pipe now goes right down to the botom of the can and stays there.
Now, when I put a can on the trolley, the pipe is captive and held in place by a lid. It's one less worry and actually looks quite neat.

Try fitting a Trigger to your pole. If you can work with it it'll save you loads of water. It will also help you regulate your water usage better.
I also did something similar to Michael with my barrel top, only in my case it was initially to stop the water sloshing out and drowning me when the barrel was full. However it also helps to stop the hose lifting up and coming out of the water. Andy at Freedom supplied me with the spare barrel top when I ordered some supplies from him.

i have now been running the freedom trolly system for nearly a year,
i take it this is what you are using or is it a van mounted system.
i never let the water run out, also i have a on/off valve on the poles.
