Hiyya, Ya'all.
This is my first post.
Sister-in-law has asked me if I can clean the windows in her church. Some are just old diamond shaped glass leaded. The one behind the altar is painted glass.
Is wfp OK for this kind of work or would it be better to refuse it and advise them to get an expert in that sort of work.
Are there specialists in church windows?

i've done a church a few times and the glass is super fragile. I've done it trad and wfp and each time i have heard a a crack or a tiny piece of glass has just fallen out.
I told them before i started doing it that the glass is very fragile and i wouldn't be able to take responsibilty for damage. They were fine.
But whichever way you clean them you will have to be incredibly gentle compared to your normal jobs.
The job is different so i don't mind doing it but as for pricing up, i think it's a hard one. I charge nothing for mine but do it twice a year, only because i have an emotional attachment to the place, but i would charge a different church where there was no attachment.
You will find the insides are probably dirtier and the windows on mine are deeply recessed with no ledges to rest a platform.

I clean 1 modern church every month which is a doddle with no problems. The other 1 I do is once every year and it's very tall. The only problem I have with it is with mineral runs if I hit the stonework. I use warm water to clean it because it's really dirty by the time it comes around to window cleaning time again so I clean it in the springtime when the glass is warmer after being baked from the sun to minimise cracking any panes of glass owing to thermal shock.

ive just done a church, i didnt want to do it and way over priced it and they said when can you do it!
i did wfp them outside, i was doing insides too, but all of them leaked through. so if you are going to wfp them, be careful as it will go inside

Hi Brett, Yes. I remember you being by far the best looking. How's Gary?
The church I've been asked to do is a couple of hundred years old - and the windows look like they've not been cleaned since its consecration! I'd love to do it, but not if it's going to damage the window or cause damage to the fabric of the bulding.
Again - are there any specialists in this field?
Is it worth becoming a specialist? There are plenty of churches around and there's no lack of money to pay for their upkeep. It sounds like a market ready for harvesting - if it's not too dangerous or difficult.

Michael
garys doing fine thanks i'll tell him you were asking about him
if you are still looking for a window cleaner to go out with for the day put it on the forum and also your location, im sure you will most definately get someone on here to give you a days experience.
Church windows ive not heard of any specialists but if they are old windows and leaking i would stay well clear it could cause you too many problems
If there was a market to be harvested im sure some of the guys on here would have already be on to it
see what replies you get back someone on the forum may be able to help you more

Looks like we have only gained one contract and not the two! :'(
A new warden was appointed at one of the premises just after we had submitted our tender. Looks like she was able have some say in who gained the contract and it has been awarded to a company that she has had dealings with in the past.
You win some you lose some!

Hi Steve, Yes, I got your email. I thought I'd replied, but when I check, it can't have gone. I'm new to Googlemail and don't understand it yet! ???
I like your publicity stuff. It's given me some fresh ideas.
