Mark, do you guys have a land line number its only because these minutes you have from mobile phones dont cover costs to 0844 numbers-its a shame for those who are away from a landline cos 0844 numbers cost a fair bit from mobiles.

Must admit these guys (and gals) are brilliant.
Had a quote from them for van insurance and looked else where for quotes. The other places were a lot lower in price and were ready to insure me until I SPECIFICALLY asked them if they covered me for haveing a water tank in the van. The reply was "NO!" They had already asked me my occupation and how I cleaned the windows so they must have known. So unless I had taken Marks advice and specifically asked that question I could have paid out for insurance that didn't cover me. So I would have been in real trouble if I had had an accident and police checked my insurance cover.......

Regards
Mr H

(P.S Did you up my cover Mark....? )

Mr H, You raise a very good and valid point with your experiences......we are specialists for this industry because we know the industry and how you operate and attend your shows (Windex, The Cleaning Show etc). Most brokers wont have a clue what a WFP system and tank include and will never ask you the question - it will always be up to you to raise the issue, which is worrying.

Likewise, I suspect that most brokers wont immediately point out that the public liability cover for "property worked on" is EXCLUDED on most policies. We spoke to a number of window cleaners last week at Windex who only found this out when they had a potential claim to deal with and the brokers told them they had no cover for it !!!!

Our policies include the "property worked upon" and "treatment risks" as standard and our commercial vehicle quotes will offer you the chance to insure your WFP equipment.

(PS - Mr H, this is Martin posting this - but I am sure Mark has increased your cover - I will get him to confirm this to you directly today.)

Do you do a reduced rate for WFP operators who dont use ladders at all?

If so what is the discount on a standard policy (I'm talking employers and public liability)

Thanks for your interest.

Our policies are arranged based on wages/turnover rather than actual numbers involved.

Assuming your turnover is around £50,000 and wages are around £25,000 then there is will be around a 30% discount on the rates for all your work being WFP rather than ladders.

If your wages/turnover are below these levels, then you will more than likely fall within the insurance companies minimum premium and therefore the differences wont apply. Likewise should there be any other pieces of underwriting information (claims etc) that we need to consider the savings may not be as great.

As a general rule of thumb, for companies exceeding the above wages/turnover figures, we can show a 30% saving for using WFP rather than ladders.

For information:

Our standard Public AND Employers Liability policy (including "property worked upon" and "treatment risks") has a minimum premium of £625

It would also be handy if this was changed to "item" or "piece of property" being worked on too, rather than just "property".  I say this because when I found that the "property" being worked on was excluded, it seemed reasonable to assume that "property" meant the entire building rather than "property" as in "item" (usually the glass and/or frame in the case of window cleaners).  The English language allows ambiguity in this regard and I really feel that insurance companies generally ought to re-word it to make the difference clearer.
