Cleaned a wool rug yesterday and it malted quite a bit,had been wet cleaned beforedye stable etc. While i was cleanig it was shedding loads of what looked like bristles like the fibre they used to stuff beds and furniture with, any idea what it was ?

sounds like the backing or stitching that holds the fibers in has rotted and when you add the water, it just comes apart.  Had this a couple of times with rugs, which is why inspections are so important, did one and didnt pick it up on the inspection and had to glue gun it all over, not the best of methods, but explained to custy and he was happy with it.
Hope it helps
