What size?

We run a Peugeot Expert, only just big enough but economical & reliable.

Are you trading something in?

What's the smallest van you an get a small truck mount into - perhaps without a water tank?  Has anybody tried this in a expert/scudo/ dispatch?

Thanks

Steve,
You may be refering to my Side Kick TM in my Blue Citreon Despatch (Basically the same as the Expert). Its a very compact set up and I crave more space. I have to take stuff out to put other stuff in, all the time.
Dave.

hi there.

we run ducato, therefore transit size van.  and when we put our next van on the road in January we will again go with the same size vehicle.

you will be amazed at how much stuff we all carry.

So i would recommend that you go for the largest vehicle you can afford.

remember you dont have to fill it up all the time, but you trying putting more stuff in a smaller van than will fit in it.

regards

martin

Steve
Take a look at the Iveco range one of my vans is a 29L10HPI
Turning circle is better than most cars fuel econ is best in any van I have had in its range, service has been good and the price is very good.

I intend trading 2 vans shortly and will be switching over to Iveco as first option for customer builds.

Cheers

George

Iveco 35S11
The only van on a "proper" chassis.

Ivecos are posh tractors, trade in is very poor but are the only really good built van for TMs.

My VW Transporter was a lovely drive although I bought the 1.9 turbo diesel which was underpowered and had a turning planet not a turning circle!

If the above has been rectified I would go with a VW, I have driven and owned most Medium sized vans and I would recommend this van but do expect big dealer prices on parts as VW and Mercedes tend to be the most expensive.

Posh Tractors indeed.

Isn't it lamborghini who also make / made tractors?  Not that I'm suggesting my IVECO is a at all quick or desireable.   :)

does anyone here lease thier vehicle fo the same lengh of time as the warrentee period then change it it for a new one as it runs out?

I was thinking of doing this so i'll never have to worry about big repair bill and I'll always have a new van :)

I went down that path a few years ago, but when I took into consideration how many miles I did and the overall condition of the van I think I was there ideal customer!

I just buy one every 3 years or so, your covered for most things for 1 year but tyres, breaks and clutches go when they want to so how much cover can you have?

I run a Vauxhall Arena/Renault Trafic, no problems whatsoever, apart from when that Pratt ran into me in late January ( now pleased to say insurance sorted and it was NOT my fault, now sueing for loss of earning and personal injuries) the repairers had problems getting the parts to repair, hence off road for 5 weeks!!

Iveco Daily 35S12. Big enough for the Truckmount, Porty, Dry Fusion, Hose Reel and all the other Gubbins we all seem to carry around. Fuel consumption same as Transit if not better and built on a proper truck chassis designed to go the distance. I intend keeping it for four years then chop in for a new van. I won't buy another one but will lease it as per Mike's idea. By the way, very reliable. :)

They seem like excellent deals, and with the style of that XLCR logo, I wouldn't be surprised to find out they were linked to Lex Vehicle Leasing.

Just one very important thing to mention though. If you're looking at the leasing option for the same reasons as Mike (i.e. no heavy repair bills) beware - if you look at the type of deal they are offering by clicking on "more info", the key words are NON MAINTENANCE. That means they won't cover the cost of routine servicing or the repair cost for anything that goes wrong and isn't covered by the manufacturers warranty.

As someone who used to look after a car fleet of over 100 vehicles on contract hire, it never ceased to amaze me how many things can go wrong with a vehicle over two or three years which could be classed as normal wear and tear or, if they can't get you on that one, driver negligence or damage.

If you really want peace of mind that you won't pick up any large unbudgeted repair or serviving bills, ask them to quote you for a fully maintained lease deal. Bet they won't be too happy to stick with the unlimited mileage bit on those terms. ;)

Something to consider.

If you're a one man band, lease a vehicle and are then taken seriously ill, have an accident, loose your license etc.  you may still be obliged to pay your lease fees even though you aren't earning. If you buy a vehicle with a loan or HP, et least you have the option to sell to minimise your losses.

Many years ago, a friend had a little too much pop one night, blew in a bag and lost his license. His XJ6 was parked on the drive for a year and he still had to make the payments. Fortunately, he had employees who could cover his needs when he had to do work away from the shop so he wasn't too hurt financially, but he vowed never to lease again.

Safe and happy cleaning :)
Ken

Chris I've never dealt with this company I just found them on the internet, the only thing I can see that i don't like about their offer is the low-priced lease deal is over 5yrs but the warrentee is only 3 years (so you still have 2 years without cover)

the contract hire looks a good option & cheap

ken you could have that attititude with most large purchaces, good income protection could help

Mike

Funny one Ken, he vowed never to lease again, how much better for him to have vowed to never drink and drive again.
