I know this is probably controversial but what the heck!
The thought of spending 2 days talking to other window cleaners about the size of their poles fills me with complete dread. Why would you want to do it? I just don't get it. Have we got nothing better to do with our time!
Well, thats the blue touch paper lit, off to work now to earn some money!!
-
I got offered a free ticket to go, and I would still rather go to the Dentist.....mind you, she does have some rather nice appendages on which to rest my head during her works....
-
I was hoping to get there this time, but I can't make it. :(
It's good to see what's new and what's coming up. And maybe swing a pole to feel it's weight before buying

Some of you just havent got it.

Which is precisely why I won't be there until late Friday morning - and even then only dropping in for a while on my way to a short holiday. I do like the social aspect of it too though. You can talk about things other than work you know - REALLY interesting stuff like train spotting or how long it takes for paint to dry.
-
was gonna be there today but got stuck into work owing to sunshine ;D
will be there tomorrow i hope
-
I'm there 2moz, first time, so will see if it was worth it!!!
-
Paul,
It seems funny that you've waited for the day Windex starts to post this, are you sure you werent all set to go and Lesa put her foot down ;D ;D ;D
Oh ive just noticed your post about the hosing - cheers mate all sorted now :)
Next time we meet up I'll let you know how im getting on with the reinforced stuff - in between talking about the size of our poles for a couple of hours ;)

Busted!!
The reason I waited till Windex started was to avoid the flak from all those devotees out there.
They'll be just leaving in their Anoeraks now talking to each other about the benefits of hot water systems & how they've Networked.
Saddoes!!!!! ::) ::) ::)

Luke , if you're going to the show tomorrow can you find out if Ionics are selling the new 'fold up', compact, version of the gutter vacuum cleaner (upkeeper (American equivalent) I believe it is. Also how much they are selling it for. Thanks.
-
Yes will do. I had there new catalogue this morning and it was this one they were selling
(http://www.upkeeper.co.uk/Gutter%20Keeper_files/gutterguys.jpg)
Will be away all weekend though so cant post until Tuesday, Luke

Hi guys
I am a CCer and also organising the CCDO (carpet cleaners day out) which is a series of technical and practical workshops on the day to day beingof a carpet cleaner. Take a look at sticky at top for agenda to see subject matter covered.
The sessions are being run by highly respected members of the forum and industry
Many CCs are bored stiff of carpex which is why they are coming to this. We only starting organising 2 Months ago and we have 60 delegates attending and the editor of cleaning matters is reporting on the event and we have 6 suppliers attending (but no hard selling)
We are already arranging next years event and a couple of people have suggested involving you guys. Not sure if it is something you feel you might get benefit from if a similar set of sessions were done to cover your industry.
Any thoughts?
Pete

Luke that's the one. The Americans have a new fold up version of this. I have bought some stuff from America before but customs & postage works out expensive. Just wondering if Ionics will be selling the new, fold up version and if so, how much.

If you spot anything about electric reels too Luke.

didnt spot anything about electric reels but did see a rewinding reel (a little like a dog lead that winds back in) shame it was standard hose though.

I'm really surprised by the lack of posts from people who went to it, come to think about it did anyone go?
Personally I chose to do a 1st time clean on a large house in the pouring rain, whilst chunting to myself that i could have been in the dry at Coventry ;D
Went to the previous one and to be honest you can see all you need in 2 hours.
-
I took 2 hours to see everything including a short seminar and non related items (carpet cleaning), don't think it's really a good show and suprised manufacturers bother to attend considering the cost to set up.
Don't think I'll bother to go again if it's on, mind you I did manage to obtain a few freebies!

I look for profit not just turnover, easy to get turnover, it is the profit that counts ;)

and i missed you too ;D

Ok then I made a mistake :-[ the reference to £80k turnover was actually £80K taxable profit.
-
I went Thursday, was hoping to see Ian (windowwashers) to catch up & have a beer ;D.
We went round twice, got some freebies, left after 2.5hrs.
Got to meet Danny Pain & Kev R, and a few others which was great ;D

-
I had a great time, there for the two days. Got to meet loads of people and put some names to faces.
Had some really interesting conversations and saw some good products too. I really liked the new Brodex 24ft aluminum pole which was light, rigid and comes with a three year guarantee. Thanks to the Unger team for lunch and some cracking freebies. Nice to see Ionics and hear straight from the salesman that the pro 10 is good for cleaning dust off internal glass but nothing more!!! lot of money for a duster!!!
For me the best stands and information were provided by Unger, Omnipole, Aquafactors, concept 02, brodex and CFR. Bought A pack of Slip n slides too, a good product (already used today) In the hall of shame were Ettore as there was nothing to see or even pick up.
Had a good social on Thursday evening over a curry and a few beers too.
The seminars were good and bad but mostly worth attending for me.
I am involved with window and carpet cleaning so there was a lot to see and do for me.
I will be going next year for sure ;)
-
I thought Windex was 2 yearly ? or is it back down south ?
-
You may be right Jeff, this was the first one for me. ;)

I was at Windex on the Friday, I'm suprised nobody said hello to me.
My impression of it? Has not got any better since two years ago. Very smalltime and not particularly interesting to be honest.
I spoke to somebody on the federation table, can't remember what his name his, he was alright. I also saw some woman who apparently runs the show called berrol. Now she's a looker. I can understand why they had her on there, really draw the crowds in lol. Talk about a face for radio.
Lots of carpet cleaning things there as last time, in fact I would have called it a carpet cleaning show more than a window one.
Some idiot in-your-face bloke was trying to hassle me into the window cleaning competition, until i told him that a competition to clean windows was quite possibly the stupidest thing I have ever heard in my life. He looked offended by that, but I told him that the very idea of it is insulting to the window cleaning trade and he should go away and re-think his life. Ridiculous.
One area that I thought was a bring-and-buy sale until I actually saw it was for some weird and not very good looking water-fed pole gear with some carbon pole that you clip together bit by bit or some other such nonsense. A freaky looking bloke with a ponytail and a thick american accent was trying to persuade me it was the best thing since sliced bread. Not convinced.
What else did I see, erm... a nice jaguar parked outside the door.
All in all, pretty rubbish as expected. If it hadn't been in the same town where I live I would not have bothered, and even then it was not worth the effort to go. You can see all there is to see (and there is not much of that) in less than an hour.

So you weren't impressed ;D ;D
-
Nope not impressed. I have a mate who is a carpet cleaner and he said that a lot of the big names in carpet cleaning were not there at all this time, eg chemspec hydramaster and a few others.
Wouldnt suprise me if thats the last ever windex/carpex, and if so I have to say I wont miss it much.
-
berrol a looker ;)
brett ;D.

Went to at least look at some ladder safety devices and a pointer
Ladders are obviously a dirty word in the window cleaning world. ???
perhaps everyone is using wfp to earn 200k a year?? ........................
or should that say every wfp salesman is earning 200k a year?
for me the show was a dissapointment travelled up from portsmouth and spent about 2.5 hours there on friday.
oh well you live and learn
-
Windex had a floor plan on their website, showing who was exhibiting.
Could have saved yourself a bit of hassle. ;)

I thought I had won the Exhibitors competition ???
But I did have Man Flu so thats my excuse.
I agree its great when people are stroppy on line but all smiley face to face, it doesnt really makes me laugh, Ive had it happen on more than one occasion.
At Windex the staff told me a visitor waited until I was off the stand getting a coffee before they came to have a look at our kit, but there not so shy on line.
-
Hi Glyn,
You do get a raw deal on here- set up even. But you always answer straight and never duck.

I did look on the internet and thank you both for for your sarcasm it was really appreciated! ;)
As the major suppliers were there and there was some imformative talks from the Hse, etc I felt that this was worth the trip alone
Watching Terry doing his thing was very impressive.
I just get the feeling that as an exhibition that is for "window cleaners" then surely it should en'compass all aspects of window cleaning not just the area that seems to be the in thing at this time
There will always be a need for Ladders and trad so why does it seem as if the trade has turned it's back to this side of the market?
As it was I went there with an open mind and was very impressed by some of the shiney gear and the sales pitches form the exhibitor's (brodex, ionics)
Equally some of the stands looked like jim bob had put it all together using cable ties and sticky back plastic in the garden shed!
I still stand by my original comment, that I felt as if the show was geared towards wfp and Ladders are indeed a thing of the past if the exhibitors are anything to go by.

I have to agree with you there it was geared towards wfp I dont think I saw a ladder anywhere Unger and window cleaning warehouse both had loads of trad stuff, maybe next time they may get a ladder company and other bits there, if not thats aa niche that needs looking at, even though I am mostly wfp I do still use ladders and that side still interests me, and every trad guy.

Well I've only just made it back myself. No! The traffic wasn't THAT bad. I dropped in for a couple of hours or so while on my way to the northeast. I had a little nose around. Stopped off at the Omnipole stand to give my regards. Was impressed with their new "trolley-on-a-backpack" thingy. It's even got a charge indicator which seems to be a useful feature IMO. Strolled over to the Ionics stand where they were demoing their system that sucks the water off the glass. I've seen it before and it looks like it would be a very useful tool with enough of the right sort of work. Wemnt to the Window Cleaning Warehouse bit as well and bought some warning signs that won't blow away (thanks for the good deal guys). Also met up with Ian (aka Windowwashers). I can assure everyone that the rumours aren't true. He doesn't look a day over 31 :) . Bumped into Brett and Gazza who used to post here too. Oh yes. Met Mr Slip n' Slide again as in Andy of WCS. I did actually buy a pack of three off him (the slip and slide thingies :) ) . The jury's out on this product as far as I'm concerned as I haven't yet had the chance to use them. I will be giving them a good road test in the next few weeks. Worth £15 just to give them a whirl I think. Will make a change to practice safe shining.
-
;D The Nec has to be the tops for me,the Buzz is great :o ;D I wish it was on all the time.mind u I am knackerd after each show :D so demarnding and in phisical
form non stop talk action :)
-
Its far out pricing itself for the small traders so they are sadly missing- pass it on.
-

I went on Friday for the talk by Ian Lancaster on franchising. Very interesting and informative. It's given me something to work on. Worth the trip down from Lincolnshire, and it was raining anyway!

wanted to hear that too. Unfortunately I got there too late as both of the northbound motorways were having problems (and I left later than intended). Bumped into Ian later on though and we had a chat.

You guys missed some gud stuff, these shows are put on for us to keep us up to date with whats hot and whats NOT.
I can back with bags full of goodies but more imporatanly i came back haveing learnt stuff i am now going to change 2 of my suppliers for better deals and learnt a few good things as well..your never to old...
Ionics gave a disasterous demo of there gutter hoover..every thing that cud go wrong went wrong its not for me..., there was a compant with a great looking ro machine claiming how fast it purified but when i looked at the literature i discovered it works off MAIN woe mains and water dont mix plus you have to get you mains and water supply from thew customer not very practical most of the time.
I cam back with lots of money off vouchers and saw the infamous brodex prolong pole what a bute..smooth as silk and rigid needed convincing on the clamps but got my self a couple the long gaurantee swung it for me.
any way to cut a long story short we should support these show otherwise we will fall behind and not know whats going on appart from this and tea with our buddies in the morning... have a nice day
