Title: anyone work out of a people carrier?
Post by: LWC on March 23, 2008, 11:48:53 am
was just talking to someone, as i might be wanting a new van, but then have the kids at the weekend. but we only have a small car aswel so was just a thought, maybe something like a vw sharan, windows blacked out. even van wrapped. sign writting, take out the seats when not in use, and have all that space. seems the pickups are too thirsty and maybe a little small

what you all think?

i use a people carrier for the same reason it dos its job mate . you get the best of both worlds once the seats are removed its as good as a van for space then seats back in for family .

An ideal vehicle is the Citroen Synergie/Peugeot 806/Fiat Ulysses as they have a completely flat load area and with the seats out, they have fantastic mounting points that you can ratchet down to.  They also have a good load rating so carrying a 400 litre flat tank would be ridiculously easy.  They also have sliding side doors which make them ideal work vehicles.

The only trouble is that the carpets get soaked and the water gets under the carpets and soaks the underlay / soundproofing eventually as well.

I use a VW Sharan (Ford Galaxys are the same) 7 seater and take all the rear seats out. But make sure you get the Diesel and not the 2.8 petrol like I did. You can get the ready made floor liners off ebay which have a 2 inch lip around the edges to stop the water and dirt.

It'd be OK as long as you don't have a long journey with the family....spilt water stinks, and can't be helped really over time.
