You need to knock on doors leaflet an area then 2-3 days later go back face to face is always better than just a leaflet that in most cases will get binned
Another way to get work is to ask local window cleaners if they have any spare work although this will mean you will get their low end work or awkward jobs but if you need the work it is a base to work from
It can take a year or two to get a decent round that you can then start to compact and drop work for the better paying but in the mean time dont underprice just to get the job as you will regret it every time you clean the job

Agree with local paper advert , I have done this for last few months . Once you get a call from a certain area drop some flyers off there and call back the same week . Over time you will find the areas where your sevice is required and build up a good business . Dont give up , dont get take rejection personally just keep on week after week putting the flyers out and calling back . I wish you all the best , and keep coming on this forum , and asking questions . The guys on here are salt of the earth and there experiance and good advice is priceless ;D

1. Get some professional looking flyers printed. Say on them who you are and what you do.
2. Plan your campaign - look at a map of your area and divide it into four sections (one for each week of your round)
3. In section no.1, go and put out as many leaflets as you think you could knock doors in about 2-3 hours.
4. Leave it for 2 days, then go and knock on every door where you left a leaflet.
5. Have a copy of your leaflet pasted to the cover of a clipboard, when the owner opens the door, hold up the leaflet and say, "Good (afternoon/evening/whatever) my name is Steve (always give your surname as well) and I put one of these through your door a couple of days ago."
If the leaflet is any good, it's already told them all they need to know, so they'll either say "No thank you" or "How much do you charge?"
At the end of the week move on to section no.2 and repeat steps 1-5. Do this until you have enough work
How easy do you want it? ;D

Stevie see about buying a small round and hit the ground running, check local papers under business for sale and take it from there. This is the best way to start.

ALSO , when you do get new work , consider doing it on a saturday morning
most of the neighbours will be in and see you working ,
you can then join the club of ' ARE YOU A WINDOW CLEANER ' when they come out to speak to you !
( its a pain in the * , when you are busy / behind and working sat only to catch up )
best wishes
lloyd .

Door knocking is better. Make sure you have a landline number and full contact details on your leaflets as this promotes trust more readily.
