I certainly need to work one of these days, but always think customers get the hump if you turn up on a bank holiday.
Does anyone else think this, ? and whos working ?
-
They can see you clean the windows ! Now they know you are the real deal ;D
-
Done it last time, I have fridays off usually, but will most likely be working on Monday. In my experience in my first year, you get praised rather then looked funny at. I can vaguely remember somebody comparing me to their old windowcleaner, and how happy they were with me.
But hey, most on here can take their own bankholiday whenever they want. :)

back tuesday
might go to llantwit magor or porthcawl
to do some surfing if conditions are right
have a good one

Yip 9 out of 10 customers won't be too happy unless you've pre booked with them. Put yourself in their postion, a Bank Holiday is in effect the same as a Sunday or a Saturday.
-
Never thought of that as an add to !
-

Will be working today (Friday) just on one commercial job. Won'teven take me an hour. Full day Saturday (it's not a public holiday). Sunday off. Monday I will do a part day. I will treat it like I do when I sometimes work a Sunday. Very late start (after 10 am) and finished by 3.
I wouldn't have bothered with work this weekend but I want to go away for a few days and have a long weekend the following weekend. I need to ensure that I don't get too far behind so I can't have both weekends off.
-
Being mainly commercial i will be off with my family till tuesday, being self employed means more family time which life is all about.
Happy Easter to you all
Adam ;) ;)
-
Am takin Fri and Mon off as it is very much a religious area that I am in...so it is very frowned upon to work...
Dave.
-
I have a number of customers on my books who have come to me specifically because I am prepared to do their windows at weekends and Bank Holidays.
These are the "out all day" types who can't leave the gate open.
-
builders cleans for me today, may just do some leaflets at the same time on site ;D
-
No work today, but will be out on monday as we are only working till wednesday then holiday time for 10 days, happy days. (not going anywhere exotic, just Yorkshire at the inlaws, to get some real ale drinking in with the father inlaw.)
-
To all you people working over the hols:
What is the point of being self employed if you are going to flog yourself to death?
It's Easter take a break with your family. :)
I'm not going back until wednesday, would be tuesday but it's Kempton Park. ;)
-
4 days off for me, already put all my leaflets out this morning so time to relax 8)

Of course, the other take on this is "What is the point of being self-employed if you can't CHOOSE when to take your holidays?" I work some of this weekend so that I can take 5 days off from NEXT Friday.
Much of my family lives in the northeast. I live in the southeast (think they're trying to tell me something? :) ) . Several family birthdays over the next week or so and I live on my own. So I work some of Easter so that I can spend time with my family next week. Different circumstances for different people :-)
Personally, I would prefer public holidays to be abolished and the days just added to annual leave entitlement. That way there is more choice about when to take a break. It would also mean that cheques don't take an eternity to clear if you bank them at the wrong time.
-
Have been working today but cut short with the rain. Will be working Monday till Saturday next week. ;D
-
Massive commercial contract on Monday. A 5 storey Police station that has not been cleaned for 10 years and it is all aluminium frames. Taking 4 of us along for the day.
-
Been out today and earned enough to take the family away in the caravan for a few days next week. Not floggin myself to death just using the flexibility that self-employment gives you.
-
The way I think of it is - I will work bank holidays if I need to, or take them off if I choose to(or moreprecisely if the wife chooses ;)).I make my schedule, not the government! You can't travel anywhere bank holidays anyway, cos the roads are always so choc-a-block! I worked today (goodfriday) and there were hardly any customers in anyway. One benefit of it was that one of the only customers in was a milkman who I never see during the day, so he payed me finally!
-
Just finished myself,
-
worked fri.off mon.think people will look at me gone out lf i turned up.
-
Got a couple of gutter jobs lined up, thought they'd be a goodun for Monday, might only do one, save the other for later in the week if its wet, Id like to have a bit of time tomorrow as its a bank holiday.
Matt
-
Totally agree with Tim- but the roads wher quiet :-\
-
I will be working tomorrow assuming the customers are ok with it. I did some of my work for tomorrow last Friday but I still have about 6 houses left. They are some of my most expensive propertys so I wouldn't like to miss out.
-
Another day ;)

Full day today.
I try to go into areas where we are a bit light on bank holidays. More potential for new business particularly on a nice sunny day like this.
-
I'll work bank holidays, christmas day etc etc if necessary and take holidays when its suits me and the family. Thats what I love about Wc. Off in abit to do a commercial contract. It'll give me time to take some time off during the school hols.
I hate being told when I have to work and when I can have time off.
-
I could never be that desperate, no matter how skint.
What's the point in having no-one to tell you when to work, then working on holidays? ???

I'm going out later to do some myself. I'm going away for a few days soon so want to minimise how far behind I get. I think the point is that you still have holiday. but have more choice when to take them

ive just spoke to some1 i know, he is working
he worked friday and today, said something like, i dont see why i should not work
great working for yourself eh, all that freedom,
some seem to work for themselves YET are just a slave to the £££ and have lost sight of the fact they started working for themselves to be free of a "boss" yet the boss has now just turned into the £££

I will be a slave to the £££ for a few years yet too Matt until I get my debt levels to something more reasonable. I've accepted that now. I don't like it but it's the way it is.
Funnily enough, I regard having to pre-arrange access to jobs as a far bigger restriction on me than finance. That's why I shy away from pooor access jobs.

fair play to you though, you have your debts and your working to pay them off
i know every person has different reasons, yours are fair enough, i was on about the people who just work for the sake of it in general

I didn't get very far in the end anyway. Went out there. Stasrted snowing. Stopped. Had another try. Started sleeting. Given up now. I doubt I got two hours worth done in the end. I don't normally let a bit of weather stop me but my back's tweaking too so I figure a couple of Ibuprofen and a bit of rest will serve me well. I've got three full days of potential work before I go away for a few days. I don't think I'll get everything done that I planned now but not to worry.

Well i am just back from work and got most people in so most have paid
Had a great day for a Monday and i actually enjoyed it today
