anyone else have a prob with hozeloks leaking??? is there anything else which is better on the market?
-
get the brass ones with the ball bearings inside and a brass elbow from Gardiners to go on to your hose. Hozelocks are not really designed to spin.
-
Just buy new rubber "0" rings, you can get a pack of about 10 for a couple of quid. No more leaks ;) just replace them when they start to leak. the one on the reel itself is the quickest to wear as it is always spinning inside the female connector as you reel in & out.

thanks fellas.....only just got all the wfp gear so all is brand new!! i was thinking that when under pressure they are not too good? the one on the reel leaks sooo much!!

Another thing to look out for is wear and tear on the plastic hoselocks seeing that they are dragged across the tarmac every time you wind your hose in.
A simple cure for this is to get a tennis ball or similar, Cut a little hole right through the middle of it (2 holes in total) and feed your hose through it so the hose lock will be just sticking out of the ball.
By doing this your hoselock will never touch the ground and wont wear.
Someone suggested this before on this site and it works brilliantly

cheers for that. i only actually use them for the plumbing in the van ie. onto the di cylinder and they also leak! as the feed into the hosereel leaks like mad, i disconnect that hose and put another hoselock on with a blanked off hose but it still drips!!!

If it is leaing through the threads on the hoselock have you tried PTFE tape?

havent tried that yet, but i will.
it looks like it is leaking from inside the connector??

That's another thing, anything with a thread ptfe tape it, like the connectors on the top of your DI vessel, these should also have a rubber seal inside. I've cured all my leaks with ptfe & new o rings.

Do you mean the water is coming out from where the hose goes into the connector? If so, try unscrewing the connector, take it off and then pop it back on again.
Sometimes it leaks there for me and it is because the hoselock is slowly being pulled off and just needs pushing back on properly and give it a good tighten.

the threaded end is fine. its where the other, female end. i was thinking that the o ring on the male connector was duff?

one other thing...... the hozelock connectors for the DI vessel...do you find they can screw in so far that the female connector will not seat properly?? i put loads of ptfe tape on

Just a thought, you haven't got too much pressure in your system by any chance?

The other post about microbore leaks was orginally made by me.
what happend is i bought a microbore tap and hose to go with my trolley and obv because i was turning the pump off by the tap on the pole and not the varistream its self pressure was in the lines causing the female hozelock to leak and the conenctor that goes into it then 2 microbore hose.
which is all sorted with some PTFE altho the hozelock conector leaks a tiny bit think its just best to get the brass ones!! seems to sorted it now.
only other problem i have now is everytime i get the hose out it starts to ravel up and kink and takes about 10mins to sort out after cleaning every job... is it best to just get a hose reel?? because pictures i have seen on here of people using the hose seems to stay nice and stright!

GEKA fittings are good although pricey. Find them on gardiners website.
