How would you clean the top floor balconies

Ladder it and jump over,i do one similar to that every 6 weeks.Wait for the comments on H&S but it works for me,there`s far to many to go indoors of every one and it would be a logistical nightmare for the live in caretaker to makesure they know i`m coming, there the same as them low 3rd floor balconys surrounded by grass and the ladder wedges right in against the wall so to be honest it`s safe.

Tell them not to be so lazy and to do the upperfloor balconies themselves...

But I might word it a bit different....

Nah, I'm with NWH on this one - ladders can still be used for ACCESS.

Why is everyone so anti-ladder anyway?  I honestly don't mind using them for access.

I don't climb high on ladders anymore.  I would arrange getting in with a key, possible extra job - let them know you'll do the insides while you're at it.
It's always a hassle to start with getting keys, but can be done.  One holiday home I do the owner leaves a spare key with the B&B next door so it's always accessible.

I would use the ladder and climb over.

Spare key what do you mean people live in them,if i was to refuse to do them i would lose the job end of story.I think we`ve all done dangerous things in the past of off ladders and if it was dangerous i wouldn`t do it,but if you said you wouldn`t do these types of windows 9 x out of 10 you`d lose it or wouldn`t get the job.

All windows have to be done, that is part of the deal.

You cant get through the apartments, the owners would all have to agree to give me a key., and i dont think that is going to happen.

I do quite a few like this and just wondered how you would do it.

Getting onto them is easy, getting off again can be very dodgy indeed. I take a small pair of steps up to stand on.
If they have a convenient chair on them to stand on OK, but I got stuck on one once, very embarrassing.

I can't get my leg over like I used to. Dai

I got on one a few years back and couldnt get off. I lost my bottle, shouted to my wife to phone the fire brigade, felt like crying.

After 1/2 an hour got a bit of courage somewhere and just went for it.

Long tripple ladder and fit stabilad stabiliser arms at the bottom of the ladder to prevent the ladder twisting when stepping off the ladder whilst climbing over the balcony. Fit some soft squidgy wheels at the top of your ladder so that it sinks flat against the wall surface (similar to the stand offs, with wheels type) and also helps minimise ladder slip movement.

Myself i would turn the job down if they would not give you access from inside.

I would not climb over the balconies i nearly fell off one once about 4 years ago getting back on the ladder and from that day i never climbed over another balcony.

FAO: Dave (St Ives)

if the height bothers you, I'd do it for you if the price is right. I do one a lot higher than the one in your pic once a month every month so that one would be easy. I like to use a ladder regularly to prevent me losing my bottle like you did, lol.

No worries Dave. How do you normally do them and how do you actually prefer to do them?

That's the chicken's way, lol. I'd never expect anyone else to do something I wasn't prepared to do myself.

4 Options in order of hassle and cost:-

Ladder and climb over
Get the key and clean from inside
Abseil down and in
Cherry Picker to each one

and thats it!

If you dont do it, someone else will - it's whether you want the job or not.

We do blocks of flats all the time, and tell them if they would like balconies windows done then yes we can do them but we would have to go through the flats if they was in, if they wasn't in then we will catch them on the next clean
