Title: SL-X query?
Post by: chrismroberts on March 18, 2008, 12:06:58 am
Just a quick question for Alex, if thats OK  :)

When the SL-X becomes available, will it be possible to buy new sections for it and extend it or is it only available to 30 foot?

Thanks :):)

We are planning on having an extension section that will slide onto the bottom of the pole, giving a fully telescopic 5ft extension.  However, at this point we are not sure whether this will be available at the same time as the pole is released - it is more likely that it will come some time afterwards.

Is the 30ft pole telescopic (quick release like face lift) and is the hose outsided the pole??

Telescopic and internal hose.

Confused now.  I though Alex said in this thread hose was external??

That's the SL2, supa light 2, a modular pole up to ~60ft. This is a new pole called the SL-X, and is telescopic.

Hi Alex

How long do you think the extenstion for the SLX will be after the pole?

I know thats like asking how longs a piece of string.

1 month two or more?

Roy

There is a chance it will come with the first shipment of poles but I'm trying to be realistic here and if it doesn't come with the first shipment, I would be surprised to see it in less than 6-8 weeks.

Thanks :) Will it extend the once or can you buy more than one extension for it?

We only plan on bringing out the one extension at the moment, but..........you never know  :)

Can the base section of a Superlight be used to extend it?

No.

Our original plan was to design a system around this but in reality it was not practical to engineer it that way.

Send me an email on alex@agardiner.co.uk and I will put your name down for one of the last 4 poles.

They are aluminium sideways cam-lever clamps, very simple but light, strong and effective. The pole (with hose, connector and plastic angle neck) is £340 + delivery + vat = £417.07

Sideways cam lever, is that the sort of thing used on bicycle seat tubes?(but posher)

Basically yes! Obviously made for us in the exact sizes to match out tubes.

Why re-invent the wheel when current technology does the job. They are stronger and lighter than plastic/nylon clamps.

Fiendish! so they probably have an allen screw or something to stop them slipping off when slack? Undo the screw and whip off the unwanted section?

Exactly.

They have a tapered end stop that prevents over extension. Undo the Allen bolt (key comes with the pole) and the section can slide off.
