Is the guy in the red jacket (pic 2) part of your team?
-
what size pole is that?
-
What make/model pole is it Dave???
-
While dave is sulking Nat, whatever happened about your forum, did you drop it like you said ? Who goes on there?
I like your hot thread, but did you see how few posters took an interest, and even fewer kicked in ideas.
Mr Sol sorry to go off topic but can you tell me what hot system you have.
-

Drop it??? No way!!! All the extra bits and pics about the hot wfp is on there!! It's getting busier by the day at the mo. It'd be bad form to post a link here,.. but ppl can always e-mail me and ask. ;D ;D ;D
I think Hot is still new to the wfp world, and it'll take a while for ppl to get used to the idea,.. and for the diy methods to be perfected,... I got more of a response, and many more positive comments than I expected. I'm sure there will be a few more diy hot systems being built in the very near future! ;D ;D
-
LOL,.. I've done the "gluing old broom handles together" thing too,... for the most part it worked out pretty well for me!!! ;D ;D ;D
-
Nats to modest to post his own forum http://avondhucleaning.com/yabb2.2/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl
-
NWH,
There aren't that many systems and the one I have is the same as Nat's an on demand system. I had the same heater to start now I have a different one. If you are thinking about getting one just do it. We need someone to try the Murco heater.
If you've got a van mount, produce water at home and can remove the DI it's easy.
The only downisde is you will use more water, but we're working on that.
Nat,
You're much nicer than me and you seem to get better replies, I can't help myself really have you noticed how I'm a pionneer at the frontiers of wfp blazing a trail, and when Matt or D Salkfield try something I call them DIY bodgers glueing old broom handles together.
Sorry i didn`t mean to bring any old arguments up,i`m going hot in 2 weeks.
-
Can't wait to see your setup NWH!
What heater are you going for?
-
I always like good marketing ideas,.... pls tell!!!!
-
Anyway nice pics Dave . ;D ;D
-
I`m getting an omnipole retro fit heater,i should really change the van first but i can`t wait LOL.Mr Sol can you get me exicited again about using hot water please, and do tell about the marketing.
-
It`s supposed to heat the water to 60 degrees but in real terms how hot is that and by that i mean is it as hot as a hot bath or a cup of tea etc,i don`t have a thermometer handy.
-
Do tell please.
-
I'm going to bed because I'm tired. What I've sen you might not seem like much.....
I'm going to delete earlier comments to save winding Dave up
-

Use to have one of those thermometers in the bath and a good heat was around 42 degrees. 45 and it was too hot for me to get into.
-
MR Sol
me sulk now way, I dont think you know me very well.
Neil , the red coat guy is on another job, we had 3 guys not on the pic, one is takng the pic , other guy out of site.
Dave
-
Nice pics Dave, that’s my next thing to get is a 60ft pole oh and a second van. Will be targeting that kind of work in April.
Is it alright I use those pics mate??

Heres some picures of me and my dad a few weeks back. I did all the cleaning but he held the poles for the pictures because he doesnt know how to operate the camera!!! Its the sl2 at 45ft, the highest window on the building is 50ft and the sl2 reaches.
this picture is taken 50ft up, I use my camera to see if the jobs been done properly
(http://lh3.google.co.uk/rupertthehair/R9ufj5R066I/AAAAAAAAA7g/zdSQKj8Yt3Q/IMG_2968.JPG?imgmax=512)
this picture doesnt look like it but its actually over 45ft up

60 degree's is fairly hot,.... but over 100 mtrs of hose you can loose a lot of heat, especially in the depths of winter, so the water hitting the glass will prob be closer to 45-50 degrees. Still hotter than I use at the moment,.. but even at my lower temps (30-40 deg) I find Hot very effective and SOOOOOO much nicer to use.
Post some pics when its done,.. it may give me some ideas how to improve my diy system!
Thanks for the e-mail Mr Sol,.. very helpful stuff!
-
Cheers Nat,i will post some pictures when it`s done.It dosen`t have a heat regulater i think so when your using it hot the water will be 60 degrees, you can have it adapted so that you can pre heat the water in the tank if wanted while on the way to first job etc, just by turning it on to hot you should have hot through in a couple of minutes.

The only thing i can see with that pic is the cheap tesco brush on the end, they dont look professional one bit and let the "whole" image down.
I used to use one until someone laughed at me and said it looked home made, it made me look closer and i just thought to myself "what are you playing at, sort yourself out David and get a proper brush on the end"
I wouldnt dream of using one now
If it looks cheap , the customer will notice it.
Dave
-
I have lots of brushes. Vikans, Ionics, Bentleys, Addis etc etc. The Super-lite from Gardiners ( Bentley ) is by far the best for the job end of. Nobody has ever mentioned anything, I doubt they can even notice. Ive got my name down for Gardiners new brush so that will be good. I could have put the Ionics on the pole but it doesnt splay quite right for this job even though its nice and light, Luke
-
Do trad cleaners use expensive looking squegees?
-
Heres the Ionic, I dont use it as much as I used to, prefer the Vikans for most jobs, but they are a little heavy:

Whatever about the brush,... Lukes pole looks a lot more pro than yours Dave,... no offense intended. It just looks lighter, more rigid, and smaller at the base.
I do think that the new brush will be a big improvement ascetically,... but I've used bentleys and their cleaning power/weight balance is very very good. None of my custies ever noticed!
-
Do trad cleaners use expensive looking squegees?
we only use the gold plated diamond encrusted ones from harrods :D :D
mike
-
David
You should have one of these, we have them in the van for jobs just like what you doing
(http://www.survequip.com/catalog/images/circular%20assembly%20(Small).jpg)
Roll Up Signs - Keep Right Arrow
-
Thats signs good, might get one, Luke
-
They are very good, we had one of them fixed metal ones, but made to much noise in the back of the van
Andy
-
Where did you get the sign from?
-
Got one from here http://www.safetyshop.com/products/productcategory.asp?topgroupcode=PE&parentgroupcode=PE12
Paid about 80 pounds, you might get cheaper, but cant put a price on your safety
Andy

Andy
The road was very quiet and i only had to step out occasionally to do the very top row, also had a banksman slowing the traffic down.
Nath
You can tell from that pic that a supalight with a £2.25 Tesco special on the end looks more pro ?
I know the supalight has its uses but to say it is more pro, surely your having a laugh.
I know trad cleaners dont use gold plated squeegies, but they dont use tesco specials either.
I do loads of top quality buildings some worth up to £20 million along with high street names such as M&s and I wont jepordise it with what looks like home made equipment.
I am sorry if it upsets some but in my opinion a tesco special just isnt professional at all
Dave
-
I thought you were a moderator? Luke
-
Luke
Ionics no longer sell that brush , they now have new one.
Yes i am a moderator but I still have an opinion.
Dave
-
Yeah, I know they have a new one. The new one isnt a crinkle monofilament or a dual trim....I think :) Your pole looks good, and so does mine :)
-
David, I wasn't having a go but showing what we use, I am sure you had the site under control
Andy
-
Andy
I didnt hink you was lol.
I like the sign and will be buying one.
For anyone who is interested there are new laws coming out 1st April and may effect what you can do on the road.
Luke
I am going to buy a supalite because i need one , just hope they sort the brush problem
-
Alex has a new one coming out if it concerns you. I have a whole range of brushes to choose from for different jobs and swivels and gooseecks etc etc I just use the best for that job. I wouldnt be suprised if it becomes the only pole you will ever use personaly. Maybe not so good for employees as they might get all confused putting it together LOL
What are those laws as I do quite alot of work on the road, Luke
-
I like the idea of the supalite, but you cant beat just grabbing a pole out of the van and getting on with the job straight away.
-
I can get the Super-lite up really quick, maybe not quite as quick as you can put up a telescopic?? But the time you save using a light pole is worth it, Luke
-
I think you can stick what you like on the end of the Superlight2 it's just that Alex prefers the bentley for the high stuff. Why buy the lightest pole then stick a lead wight on the end?
-
Exactly! It makes the pole light and stiff and you can scrub really quick just like your doing a second story window, Luke
-
Comparing the two pics, the xtel pole looks like its bent in the middle, it might be just an optical illusion but it still looks a bit bendy at that height. The SL2 would be lighter and it does look a lot more rigid. However the xtel would be easier to extend especially in a tight situation. I really like the xtel range but I think at that height the SL2 is probably the way to go, unless you have a job with bad access.
I must admit I do feel the same as Dave when it comes to brushes. Even if a bently does do a fantastic job, image is as important as equipment, some people will pick a window cleaner because he looks the part more. I have however heard really bad reports about the bently, bonzer told me that when he started using it he got loads of spotting. I can't wait to try out the new brush from gardeners especially when they bring out a double trim version.
Simon.
-
However the xtel would be easier to extend especially in a tight situation.
The SL2 is great for tight situations, I do a job where the previous wc'er refused to do part of the windows ( 40ft high in a tight alley ). You can lift it form 45ft from the floor ( horizontal ) Luke
-
Oh and at that height unlike a telescopic you can lift of to rinse if you want, Luke

-
Why sink the ship for an eighthpence of tar.
Sherwood
You are right about image, if a builder turned up with out his Bosch drill and instead got out his B&q special, i would be very worried.
Same if a mechanic came without his snap-ons.
The astheatics at the business doesnt look impressive at all, you have carbon going into alloy then black plastic , then into a tesco special. with a dangling hose.
I am sure Alex in time will address these issues
There is a slight optical ollusion in the first pic, there looks like a lot of bend because i was stood half way into the road to get over the second top window.
Like i said there is a place for both and i am going to buy a supalite so no love lost there
-
I bet loads of big commercial contracts have been lost because the brush looked cheap! ::)
I would have thought the image of the operator was far more important. I mean would you employ that scruffy half shaved Dave St ives chap who posted his picture on here wearing trainers? I wouldn't. ;)
As long as my builder gets a Boch drill out of the back of his Robin Reliant he must be good.
-
Yeah, I know they have a new one. The new one isnt a crinkle monofilament or a dual trim....I think :) Your pole looks good, and so does mine :)
The new multipole brush is normal monofilament, still dual trim, but a bit stiffer. Apart from crinkle it's identical. I think the new ones have 2mm pencil jets instead of the 3mm ones. The brush is specially designed to last in hot wfp applications.
-
After getting Alexs new brush I might give that new Ionics a go, Luke
-
DJW
That was probably me at my worsrt, didnt stop me getting that particular house where the photo was taken which the guy just bought for 1.5 million.
Your personality gets you the work, your tools inspire confidence.

Can you give me an insight into your business, show me a pic of you at work?
I think i am doing something right, got the jobs to prove it.
Dave
-
Don't worry, i'm bored - it's raining and i'm just stirring things up! ;)
-
I look alright in this post though dont I ?
Logo'd polo shirt and logo'd hi viz vest. safety boots professional equipment.
Dave
-
My dad looks better :) LOL
-
Of course you do Dave (don't like the jeans though) :)
-
lol
I dont like jeans as well, i have tried all sorts of work trousers but they always look tatty after a couple of weeks as well as fading in the sunlight.
black shows up dirt more too, i find.
Do you know of any good work trousers ?
-
Yes, we like the hi viz ones. Keeps you safe, dry and clean, Luke
-
I've got some really good Dickies black work trousers forget the exact model but very tough with knee patches and some funny pockets that unfold into tool carriers - good for collecting money in. No zips. Factory is not far from me so i can buy direct pretty cheaply.
http://www.dickies-workwear-uk.co.uk/acatalog/Dickies_Trousers.html?gclid=CNyeoPaXj5ICFRCbaAod8mrqCw
There we go £16 a pair i pay.
-
Nice job Dave ,Sparkles from Redruth old job has he packed up havent seen him for a bit cheers Ned
-
Hay Dave , I'll be driving down that road tommorow - i'll be inspecting the windows as i go by ;D
Family day out in St Ives ... :)

Dave
So have i and when i can work out how to use my camera i`ll show you.
-
Dave get some craghopper trousers, you get them from blacks or millets.
-
Dave
We have gone for a black uniform and have a black teflon coated trouser - similar to the Dickies, previously mentioned, they look very smart and are hard wearing.
If anyone is looking for a gold plated squeegie - give me a call as we have a full gold plating set up that is ready to roll this week - for all image conscious window cleaners - who want to dazzle their client base!!!!
Rob ;D
-
Rob
If you are serious , put me down for one.
Ned
Do you know everyone and all the buildings in Cornwall ;D
Did you see him do it ?
Sorry never heard of him.
Its not a job you look forward to, so maybe he let it slide ? Dunno
-
Dave
Sorry for taking it off topic but I was being serious - though tongue in cheek!!
We purchased the set up at the beginning of the year after seeing it on Dragons Den and can plate most metals to gold, silver, alloy etc.
Only sold to the fashion conscious window cleaner!!!
Rob ;D
-
How much are they.
-
I find Regatta trousers to be good, very hard wearing, tonnes of pockets and a lot more professional looking than jeans. I have them in black and yes black is a bad colour for showing up the dirt, but then so is denim blue.
Simon.

Hi Dave
The job's a good'n.
I like Alex's genuine support in helping us all, he really tries to share the fruits of his hard work and research, but I think the Supalite brush, which he didn't invent, is not the way forward.
I think you tell it like it is Dave. Keep it up!
You too Alex.
Personally I do not like the Supalite Bentley brush, and I will not be "swept" along by peer pressure or old school tie stuff. It is rubbish in my opinion!
Gardiners, however, have been extremely helpful in other ways and I think they as a team are really working hard to help wfp forward and credit to them for what they do....But..
I have trialed the bentley brush for weeks on 2 poles and I am very unimpressed with it's results up close. Ask me why? I may put up a new topic..............again
I'm afraid the bentley brush, even at height is not for me.
-
Dave spoke to Sparkle today he done the job for 2 yrs last clean Dec 07 , He said be careful stopped doing the job money dispute still on going ,loads of other problems with the contract good luck Ned

Have to agree, although the Bentley has an ideal weight, I'm better off using a toothbrush.
