Title: extension pole window cleaning

Hi, just bought an ettore ext pole (2.6 m-7.4 m), and a ettore back flip (vice versa).
I bought it with the intention of cleaning dormer windows, windows above porches etc. I tried using it this morning but am having a few probs,

1.how do i detail windows at height (especially along top of window)
2.is there a method to use so as i dont have to wipe squegee every pass (this means bringing the pole down to wipe squegee)

I am only starting out at the trad window cleaning game, and any help would be great.

Try not to hit the top of the frame or it just runs like mad, you just have to get close as poss with out hitting it (which comes with practice)

And to stop bring down the pole, just tap the squeegee on the glass and this normal works

The way I detail with a pole is to secure a micofibre to the pole end with an elastic band, then go round tidying up the edges.
I tap the squeegee lightly against the window frame. That seems to remove the water ok.

You need a fixi clamp that you put on your pole to hold either your scrim or microfibre.

go for the plastic one mine is ally and its possible to mark the glass if you aint careful :(

I am actually planning on doing this using a ladder stand-off and obv the poles.

What do I need?

Length pole?
Flip squeege/applicator?
clamp for cloth?
What about the frames?

Sorry if I sound thick but been looking on the net and am not sure what i need.

Hi Davy, All good advice given, but I wouldn't over-fret about doing a spot-on job on windows where you have to use a pole. Most sensible customers appreciate that unless it's "hands-on" the result won't be 100%.

If you're going to use the tapping method make sure your applicator isn't over wet as the "tap" will spray the glass you've just bladed.

To detail the fixi clamp is good and the order to detail is: 1st sides, 2nd top and 3rd bottom.

Don't worry about putting your ladders onto plastic gutters as they always have loads of give (I've been doing it for years without breaking one...just be a bit careful as metal on plastic has side-slip potential).

Lastly (although I'm sure you've already discovered this) have as little ladder above the gutter as possible...one rung is ideal, any more than 2 gets in the bloody way :(
