That post changed a few times Ian. lol.

what is bandwidth, naive but honest.

so its a yearly subsription then a small or in some cases large monthly fee. for hosting...

why the difference in monthly fees.?

I spent double on the website, than I have on stationary for the year.

Still under constrution and it's looks great already.
What you get for the money is excellent and just a one off payment.
(I would have paid more)

Hosting is just a fraction of mobile phone bill.

This is an area I would not cut corner's if you intend to grow your business.
Let somebody who knows what they are doing build it for you, thats there skill.
Your's is running a WC business.

Good luck

Ewan :)

Good advice Ewan .. Thanks.

Thanks too for all replies, how people build themselves is brilliant, wish i could.

bandwith it easy terms is the amount of traffic(people) going to your site viewing images etc.

hosting for us is 12 monthly, others charge monthly, other charge nothing but watch out on the low price or free ones and alot of the time you get restricted or you get adverts and they look bad and rank bad.

it cvhanged as I wanted to get the right message across, I care about this or I would not bother stating my points.

I do alot for my hosting payments alot more than others IMO

Thanks for the information, i am slowly getting to grips with how it all works and is set up,.. i think i will give it some more thought and look around for some design ideas,

It seems a good add on to anyone serious of making a business successful not to mention giving yourself a more professional look, although from what i have read not much in the way of domestic work tends to come from websites, i may be corrected now.

but i firmly believe i need to have one anyway, and every aspect of advertising must be tried if affordable.

I agree with Ian regarding free hosting , or even free website building, as i have recently had a look at a few and i dont trust them, they look as though they would fill my site with any old advertising garbage to say the least.

Im a little suprised by the responce here, as i thought many , many w/cs had websites on here, perhaps the ones who do ,could tell us if they are working for them, against how much it cost them to set it up?

Gary.

I have one of the free ones and get no advertising garbage with it i know a few of my customers look at it and some new customers have looked after i have canvassed them then phone me to quote them so it does alright for me even if eventually i have to pay for it it is money well spent and i have had it free so i cant complain

interesting thread

I would like a website too.  I had resolved to get it done this year, but I budgeted about £1500.

By the sound of things it can be done cheaper, but I want something top quality.  I wonder what the difference is between a £1500 site and a £400 site.

I'm inclined not to go for the cheaper option if it means a drop in quality

How would you work out what a quality site was?

I know a fantastic web designer - and he is really reasonable too.  He also designs logos, business cards, etc.  I am in the process of having one set up for my window cleaning business but he already designed one for my bouncy castle business.

You can see my website and others on the portfolio page of his website (www.betterdesigns.net).  The guy's name is Justin Daurat.

Good luck.

Hi
I had a company called sliced creative design mine and it included an online brochure for customers to download. They will design a site suited to the budget you give them. I paid about £1000 for mine and have to say that it has already paid for it self and customers to comment on it. I host with them for about £60.00 per year. If anyone is interested give Nick from Sliced a call he is really an approachable guy.

Regards
Karl

Karl,

have microsoft been in contact yet for using there copyright images for msn messenger I would be very wary of having them on my site because there look like a dead ringer for their sign-in images on desk top bar?

Hi
No they have not but the guys who built my site would not use anything that had copyright infringements.

thanks
